Quebec City 1987 By Kelli McFeetere And we're off!!! It's the morning of April 10. Students, teachers and parent volunteers volunteers and one travel agent are headed for a long seven hour bus ride to Quebec City. The trip only offered to students enrolled in French classes, is a test of our true French speaking skills. The four day, three night trip was spent at Le Concorde Hotel located approximately one mile from Old Quebec City's wall. The trip goes every other year and although this was my second time, I found it to be just as exciting. We arrived at our hotel at about 4:00 p.m. The day being shot, we had the night to explore this exciting town, at least until our ten o'clock curfew after which we found ourselves watching the city's night life from our hotel window. The next day we were up at 8:40 a.m. for a guided ' walking tour of the city and an explanation on the Battle of the Plains of Abraham. I'm sure some of us will never forget the things that happened happened on those plains. After lunch we were supposed to meet for a tour of the Citadel but unfortunately unfortunately we were late and missed out tour. Then we went to a light show at the museum on the Battle of the Plains of Abraham/ After that, an optional shopping trip was offered to a big shopping mall, but I guess they anticipated it to be, open until seven, but it wasn't. The shopping mall closed at 5:00 and the students had no bus ride home, so they were left with the choice of getting a taxi, waiting until six for the bus to come or walking the eight miles back to the hotel. That night our curfew was extended until 11:00. We were allowed to go roller Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Mark Eichorn is surrounded by admirers as he signs autographs at Ebenezer United Church May 31. He and other Blue Jay, Jesse Barfield, spoke to the audience at the packed church about discovering Christ. skating or to go walking around town like most people did. I found myself eating in nice restaurants every night, ordering in French rather than most people's three meals at McDonald's. The next day was spent travelling around by bus. First we drove around half of ile d'Orleans, a nice little island with beautiful old houses. Then we drove to Mount St. Anne and then stopped stopped to see a big waterfall. Our next destination was Ste. Anne de Beaupre where we looked in a beautiful church and had the opportunity to listen to a French mass, which I'm sure most of us couldn't understand. understand. We stopped at a wood carving shop to give us a chance to see a wooden mural which had been hand carved by a talented wood carver and to pick up some last minute souvenirs. For lunch we went to Marie's Bread Oven for some pea soup, homemade bread and a taste of maple butter. The last stop of the tour was at the Aquarium where we could see a seal show. The last night was very windy and most of us could be found inside visiting each other's rooms, but not making enough noise to get kicked out of course! ! According to the hotel staff, we were a very well behaved bunch of students. For me, the trip was again a pleasure and a good chance to ; practice my eleven years of, French Immersion. Thank you to all parent ; volunteers and teachers for, making this trip possible because without you the trip wouldn't have been the tremendous success that it V paRTtapacnon Cj nonP* Wins G.M.
