Celebrates 25 Years At Nestleton United on a beautiful Sunday morning, President Janice MacKenzie and Unit Leaders Jean Williams 4 Kay Notman were the warm, genial greeters at the door. Pleased to have a number of former members... as well as friends from Blackstock present. President Janice was the chairperson for the service and in her competent manner manner extended a cordial welcome to all for the "special" day. Guest speaker Betty Turcott of Bowmanville, was introduced by Carol Mairs. In her excellent message Betty spoke on the "Anniversary "Anniversary Celebration.. Past, Present Present and Future" leaving many thoughts for all to take home. It was a triumph of effort... and ingenuity. ... with U.C.W. participation... giving giving new flavour and zest to the work of the U.C.W. for the future. A fine discourse I The speaker was thank ed by the chairperson Janice. Bob 4 Rebecca Helsdon of Blackstock, provided special music ... singing two numbers. "Sometimes Alleluia" and "Raining on the Inside" with guitar accompaniment accompaniment by Bob. A very talented couple singing with warmth & feeling. feeling. The Ladies quartet gave a pleasing number... "Seek Ye First" during the offering. A presentation of a lovely gold pendant was made to Gwen Malcolm for her faithfulness in playing playing the organ Jor the past 25 years, and presented by Leona Sadler & Jean Williams... a pleasant surprise for Gwen. Your correspondent would be very remiss if the Banner ... the U.C.W. members made was not commented upon! It hangs on the east wall of the church... a work of Art... most beautifully done. The committee surely have skill 4 imagination imagination with a creative bent. They are to be congratulated! Lovely floral arrangements were placed about the church ... adding a final touch. In the S.S. Room the table was groaning with a lovely assortment of finger rolls, relishes, tea 4 coffee -- centered by the attractively attractively decorated anniversary cake ... which was cut by Leona Sadler 4 Mabel Cawker. A social time was enjoyed visiting with friends after it was served. Warmest appreciation to ail who had a share in planning this eventful day of memories -- it was just great in every way! A day we'll never forget! As we go our separate ways, let us remember what we have shared with one another in thanksgiving 4 in celebrating Sunday, Sunday, June 14, a very special occasion! We welcome Harold 4 Muriel Wheeler home from an extended stay in St. Cloud, Florida. They have been South for seven months 4 we surely missed them. Audrey Leishman 4 son William of Reaboro, were visiting with her mom Neta Fish just recently. Very glad to see Neta feeling much better better after a few days illness. Fred Swann conducted the morning service at Nestleton Presbyterian Church at 10 a.m. with Joyce Taylor, organist. Psalm 103 was read in unison, 4 from the "Living "Living Faith" the selection on "Our Hope In God." Scripture Matthew 6: 5-15. Rev. Swann continued the study of the Lord's Prayer -- "Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread." Holy Communion Communion was administered with elders Mrs. Elsie Hooey (Kanata) 4 Mr. George Scott assisted Rev. Swann. Blue Ray Election of Officers Worthy Matron Elsie Wilbur assisted by Worthy Patron Norm Mairs opened Blue Ray Chapter, No. 238, OES, in regular form on Thurs. evening last, with a very good attendance. The ceremonies were held in the Masonic Temple, with guests from Oshawa 4 Whitby 4 Blue Ray members 4 all given a warm, fraternal welcome in the East. A banner night for the Chapter under the guiding hand of Brother Norm Mairs... who presided for the Election, and every Office was filled filled for year 1887-1988. We thank those who assisted with this important day. During the year much Benevolent work has been accomplished by Sister Elsie, Officers 4 members. Donations were given to many worthy worthy causes ... $500 to Community Memorial Hospital; $300 to Estarl Fund; $100 to Sick Children's Hospital; $100 to Community Care; $50 to Kidney Foundation; $50 to Cancer Fund. The Worthy Matron's project... a wheelchair for Central Seven reached its goal. Another great year for Blue Ray members ... very dedicated workers! A great loss! + The Canadian Red Cross Society We have just been informed by Mrs. Dorothy Ormiston of Whitby, a former resident of Kendal, that a "Colonial Lady" patterned quilt which was made and quilted by Shiloh U.C.W. was entered at the Quilt Show held at St. Mark's United Church in Whitby in April. This quilt was judged to be in the top 10 of the quilts entered at the show. Made approximately 17 years ago, about the time we made the Friendship Basket or Name Quilt, this quilt is now owned by Mrs. Ormiston. Almost every lady who worked on this quilt is still "doing" quilts. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Stark visited Monday evening with Mr. and Mrs. John Murphy.
