Many happy returns Rudy! On Sunday, June 14, Rudy's parents Wendy and Robin entertained her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Trineer, Orono. That same day, Rudy's paternal grandmother, Jean Rickard had the misfortune to fall and break both wrists. Jean and Brenton were Monday evening dinner guests with Wendy, Robin and Rudy. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Verploegh and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Groeneboom, from Iowa, visited with Ben and Narda Hoogkamp a few days last week. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Markle and Andrew, Scarborough, were Sunday visitors with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Powell and attended the Newcastle United Church Beef Barbecue at the Town Hall. Messrs. Albert Graham, Jack Perrin and Sam Brere- ton attended the General Motors Retirees' Picnic at Lakeview Park, Oshawa, last week. If you see a two- inch long hairy caterpillar with five pairs of red dots and six pairs of blue dots, that is the Gypsy Moth in that stage! In the afternoon also, Jack and Hazel heard Marjorie Mason if Pickering speak about 450 varieties of geraniums or pelargoniums. Miss Cathy Scott and Chris Edmuson, Toronto, and Dorothy and Ken Newton, of Hamilton, were Saturday overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Scott, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wade attended Grand Lodge in Toronto at the Royal York Hotel Thursday and Friday. On Friday they went' on to Cambridge and on Saturday attended a 50th wedding anniversary in Brucefield. Sunday evening Stan and Jean McMurter, of Bowmanville, were guests of the Wades. With Mr. and Mrs. Albert Pearce for a visit on Father's Day were Larry, Barb, and boys, Wayne, Kim, Vicki and Kirk of Bethany, Ric, Marilyn and children, Port Perry, Ted, Elizabeth Walton and boys, Bowmanville. On Thursday a full bus load of Newcastle Senior Citizens enjoyed the day bétting on the horses at Woodbine. Most of the attendants must have won some money for they dined at the Woodbine Centre before returning home. Congratulations! On May 28,1987, Agriculture Minister John Wise announced the appointment of six members to form a second Farm Debt Review Board in Ontario. The second board is being formed to meet the increasing number of requests for assistance. The second board will operate under the same chairman, George McLaughlin. Appointed to form the second board are J. W. Daunt of Gorrie, James Hughes of Picton, Gary Buck of Norwood, Donald Hough of Napanee, Edgar Currie of Collingwood and Francis Jose of Newcastle, who owned and operated a dairy, fruit and cash crop farm for 31 years and now operates an orchard. He is also Director of Eastern Breeders Inc. and the Durham Growers', Co-operative. Congratulations Francis! These Farm Debt Review Boards were established by the federal government in August, 1986, to assist farmers and their creditors resolve financial difficulties. St. George's News On Sunday, June 21st, the second Sunday in Pentecost, St. George's members were grateful that the Rev. Max Woolaver of St. Peter's, Cobourg, could celebrate at 8 a.m. at St. George's. Thanks to Oakley Peters, and Gordon Leek for officiating at the other services. Next Sunday, June 28th, is the last day for the Rev. James Small to lead in worship worship in this Parish. A special rite shall be used at the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services. The 8 a.m. Service will be as usual. The St. George's A.C.W. Salad Supper was a huge success, thanks to Marg Tait, A.C.W. members, and everyone everyone who participated in any way. A great big Thank You to all who took part in the Fellowship Fellowship Club Annual Car Rally last Sunday. It was an enormous success and everyone everyone had a wonderful time. Car Rally It was certainly a beautiful day Sunday, June 14, as twelve or so cars left from St. George's Parish Hall for destinations unknown on the Annual Car Rally of St. " George's Fellowship Club. Not only was there a hint of anticipation anticipation in the air, but one could feel the promise of fun and fellowship also. After a couple of hours of finding your way along the beautiful country roads, with which this area is blessed, the participants found themselves at the Ganaraska Conservation Authority Park at Garden Hill. The clues were excellent and apparently clear enough for everyone to arrive safe and sound! United Church News On Sunday, June 21st, 1987, beautiful floral arrangements graced the sanctuary of Newcastle Newcastle United Church. Lay Reader Gordon Carey read the Scriptures from Matthew 7 and Ephesians 5. Rev. Donald Stiles preached the sermon Fatherhood. The organist for the day was Mrs. Stella Morton. The Beef Barbecue and Strawberry Supper from 5 to 7 p.m. was very successful, thanks to all those organizers and workers. The summer schedule is: July 5 and 19, Orono United Church; July 12 and 26, Kirby United Church. All these July services begin at 10 a.m. Rev. Fred Milnes will be on call. All August services in Newcastle commence ii 10:30 Here 9 s the Beef at Newcastle Supper a.m. As the crowds gathered outside Newcastle Village Town Hall, chief chef and" carver Brenton Rickard started to slice up the beef. The Father's Day Beef' Barbeque and Strawberry Supper, on June 21, was a huge success and organizers ; estimated that there was a crowd of several hundred hungry folks fed before the night was through. The delegate's registration for the first-ever Provincial Convention Convention in North Bay will be paid by the branch. The Poster Competition on anti litter and anti vandalism was judged and the winning posters were shown to the group. It was decided to continue with the Orono Fair Prize Money for the Jr. Horticulture Horticulture section. The tentative date for the games night at Rickard's was selected as Thursday, Nov. 12th. The Roll Call was to name an occupation we would enjoy.
