Starkville News An Open House celebrating the 60th wedding anniversary of Lawrence and Elizabeth White, was held on Tuesday, June 14, 1987, in Tyrone Community Hall. The Orioles scored early in this game as Kevin Smith walked with one out and scored on a wild pitch. The Orioles added another run in the third inning 'as Ed Bird scored on yet another wild pitch. The last run came in the fifth inning as Kevin Smith drove in Phil Bird with a solid single. Mike Gallant was the Orioles' starting pitcher and pitched his best game of the season, allowing only six hits and striking out three batters. Gallant's off-speed pitches kept the Ajax batters well under control. Collecting hits for the Orioles were Steve Coverly, Kevin Smith and Mike Gallant. The offensive star of the game for the Orioles was Kevin Smith who was 1 for 1 - with a walk, R.B.I. and a hit by pitch. The defensive star of the gamewas Gallant as he continues to improve at the Junior level. Honorable mention goes to John Mutton and Kevin Smith who both made diving catches in the outfield.
