Think Canadian^ Lawn Bowlers Compete in Peterborough By Ab Mavin Two of our teams travelled travelled to Peterborough to take part in the Ruddy Electric Trophy Tournament. Ned Town and Edythe Charles of Port Hope came first and Took the trophy with a score of 52, closely followed by John and Iris Ramsden of Bowmanville with a score of 51. Another great effort by John and Iris who have been giving a good account of themselves for the past few weeks. Oscar and Doris Wollstein made another great effort to win two games with a total score of 43. . The following day, Sunday, Sunday, June 28th, Pete Bathgate and Ab Mavin travelled to Peterborough to conduct the District Men's Pairs. Once again we were greeted with coffee, this time by the kind efforts of Helen Leslie who so capably capably looked after the kitchen. There were 19 teams of Men's Pairs from Peterborough, . Oshawa, Cobourg, Victoria Place, Whitby and Port Hope. The eventual winners were Ken Dawson and Jack Tisdall of Oshawa, at the ungodly hour of 2 o'clock Monday morning. Next Sunday, Ab Mavin and Dick Holmes (Deputy District Chairman) will be going to Port Perry to supervise supervise the Men's Pairs. As the greens were inclined inclined to be bumpy for the Fred Cole Tournament on Saturday, June 20th, it was decided to try and improve them for the Ladies Tournament Tournament on Wednesday, July 8th. Consequently, Peter Bathgate and Ab Mavin rented rented a vcrticutter (dc- thatcher to some people) and went over the greens. The ever reliable Ivan Ball then came along and cut the greens at the same time picking up the thatch. Extra help was supplied by H. Bennett, L. Langs, Pete and Ab. The next day the greens were fertilized by Ab with the water power being looked after by Harry and Pete. Naturally, we got the usual squawks about the greens being rough but at least the good Lord sent us some rain Thursday night, Friday and Saturday so that the greens arc becoming greener all the time. This year we lost two stalwart stalwart members through illness illness in the persons of Morgan Morgan Lunney and Francis Thompson. We were up to see Morgan on Friday and although making periodic trips to the hospital, he appears appears to be coming along. Francis, of course, is in Slrathaven in room 112 and would appreciate a visit from members at any time. Glad to welcome aboard W. Holpcrt as a new member and Marg Smith and Irene Carson who rejoined us this year.. &\44UjUuf. you Qifo and Qn&eti+Ufl... Hu Hut lew leUt ■ Oh WmH It's time to call your Welcome Wagon hostess.
