Senior Public School Teams Win Baseball Titles WANDERING TO MONTREAL -- The Darlington Wanderers Wanderers Soccer Club went to an invitational tournament on July 3. The team, coached by Don Westlake, won three games and advanced as far as the semi-finals, semi-finals, before being downed by a very good team from Dollard, Quebec. Darlington is currently in the middle of the Summer Cup soccer playdowns in the Motor City League, recently downing Ajax. On Sunday, June 28, the team beat Juventus, from Whitby 9-3. Kevin Wilbur scored six goals, while Todd Wilbur, Bruce Snowden and Paul Strong contributed the other three. The team is undefeated in its last seven outings, after dropping the first three of the season. Next stop is the Summer Cup, on Tuesday. ROAD RUNNER--Local racer Randy MacDonald took to the racetrack at Mosport again on the July 3-5 weekend. The weekend didn't have a promising start, though. Randy's rear left axle bent, causing his Trans Am to vibrate. But despite the axle and rain, he still managed to finish 9th in the qualifying round. The remainder of the weekend went very well, though. Randy posted the fastest lap of the day at 1:43.123, but finished 15th on the day. He also won the Closed Wheel event, a race that throws together Porches, Hondas, Trans Ams and other vehicles. On Monday, Randy headed to the U.S. where he'll be stock car racing on Sunday, July 18. His next Player's Challenge race will be the second annual Molson Indy held at Toronto July 17,18,19. He is currently in 12th place overall in the eight race series. By Bud Fanning On Saturday afternoon, July 4th, the long time rivals, the Newcastle Lakers, and the Kendal Eagles met at Jackson Park in Kendal in a Molson's Eastern Ontario Baseball Association Senior League game. The outcome was yet another defeat for the Fox Sports Lakers, as the Kendal Eagles were victors by the score of 11 to 6. However, the game was closer than the score indicates. indicates. It was the old story for the Fox Sports Lakers, two big bad innings as the home town Eagles scored five runs in the third and again in the fourth to take a 11 to 1 lead. Ed Bird from the Bowmanville Bowmanville Juniors banged out a home run in the top of the third inning to put the Fox Lakers on the score sheet. Dan McMullen was Field Manager John Robinson's choice to start on the mound for the Fox Lakers and he was relieved by the veteran Timm Jenkins in the last of the fourth inning.
