They visited Mr. Bruce Pearce who was a patient in Parkwood Hospital, London, and called on Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pearce, Otterville. On their return Wednesday, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Walton, Bowmanville, hosted a family birthday party in honor of her father, Mr. Albert Pearce. Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Tompkins, Ottawa, were visitors last Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wade. On Wednesday Bill and Margaret Wade, Oshawa, visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wade. Mr. and Mrs. George Buckley visited on Wednesday evening with Mr. and Mrs. John Hills, Millbrook. On Thursday evening Mr. and Mrs. George Buckley visited with Mrs. Pearl Woodhams, Scarborough. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wade were in Peterborough on Thursday, paying respects when Mrs. Mary Laroque passed away, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Garrod have had Florida friends Ray and June visiting. All enjoyed a visit to Cullen Gardens where they took Mrs. Garrod's mother, Raye Fried- lander, for birthday dinner. On Friday Mrs. Ruby Lee, Oshawa, visited Mrs. Pauline Storks and her sister,- Mrs. Raye Friedlander. Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Rickard enjoyed the Markham Horticultural Horticultural Garden Tour on Sunday, July 5th. An Allin Family Reunion was held on Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Allin, About sixty persons attended. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Chard visited on Saturday evening with Mrs. Clara Schmid, Bowmanville. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Allin, Brownsville, visited Saturday evening with Mr. and Mrs. John Scott. Mr. and Mrs. Vance Cooper, Oshawa, visited on Saturday evening with her sister, Mrs. Kathleen Kimball. Mr. and Mrs. Ric Pearce, Kevin and Trisha, Port Perry, were Saturday visitors with Albert and Myrtle Pearce. Mrs. Alecia Spencer, of Newcastle Multi Care Centre reports that she and Mrs.. William Milligan were pleased to have Mrs. Velma Jakeman and Mr. Bev Jaynes, of Bowmanville, visit them recently. Birthday greetings to Joy Yates, Velma Parker, Ron Hope and neighbor Lindsay Foote. Congratulations and best wishes to Ron and Judy Hope who observe their wedding anniversary on July 11 and to Tom and Sandra Schmahl, who will be wed eight years on July 14. Many Newcastle area residents enjoyed the Beef Barbecue at Newtonville United Church on Wednesday, July 1st. The weather was ideal for dining outdoors, and the food was great. On Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. Newton Ashton, Bowmanville, Bowmanville, and Helen Nesbitt were dinner guests of Mrs. K. Kimball. Mrs. May Burley and Mr. Arthur Clark were Friday overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Stephenson at their Belleville cottage. Mrs. Hilda Tamblyn, Orono, visited on Sunday evening with Mrs. May Burley and Mr. Arthur Clark. Last Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. Robin Alldred enjoyed supper with Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Alldred, Oshawa. Anglican Church News On Sunday, July 5, at St. George's Anglican Church, Rev. Bob Mansfield, conducted conducted the services. Rev. Mansfield began his ministry in Saskatchewan. His sermon, based on Exodus 2 and Corinthians 12, was well received. God uses events to fit in with his plan that everyone everyone is needed and He builds on Love. On Sunday, July 12, Rev. Ray Ashton very capably took over the organ at church on Sunday while our regular organist, Ulah Chambers, is on holidays. Merle Avery and Jill Haskins were the greeters at the door and they also took up the offering. Rev. McKinnell based his sermon on the "Wounded Healer." The flowers in the sanctuary were placed there in memory of Mrs. Muriel Butson's mother, Mrs. Crawford, who passed away this past week. Mrs. Neta Fish presided for the usual opening with the Ode and Mary Stewart Collect, followed by a poem "Canada--Our Country." The minutes were read. " by secretary Mrs. Gwen Malcolm, and finances reported by Mrs. Rika Wygerde. The Roll Call- "Problems farmers face" was well answered, and Mrs. Rika Wygerde responded to the Motto- "Plant your seed carefully today -- you're planting for tomorrow" tomorrow" with an article on Daycare- Working Mothers versus Mothers at home. Correspondence was read, including including information re' "The Butler Kit" which is being made available to teachers to acquaint school children with farm animals and interest interest them in Agriculture. Mrs. Norma Frew was thanked for the recent donation of a Canadian Flag for the Centre Flag pole. The Fair Committee is planning to meet to prepare the exhibit for the Blackstock Fair "Then and Now." The Award to Grade 8 student for "Improvement in Writing" has been given to Sheri Masterson at the Cartwright Public School Graduation. Graduation. Cards were signed for two members. The August meeting will be in charge of Mrs. Norma Frew and will be a luncheon at the Bonfire Bonfire Restaumt, followed by a play at Lindsay Summer Theatre (matinee). Mrs. Rika Wygerde, Convenor of Agriculture & Canadian Industries introduced the speaker Mr. R. Coy of Blackstock who spoke on the topic "Farm Labour Pool." With branch offices in Cannington, Port Perry and Havelock- workers for farms and Horticultural enterprises are employed in seasonal work. A sing-song of patriotic songs, was followed by a contest by Mrs. Rika Wygerde and a reading by Mrs. Neta Fish. Singing of "The Grace" and O Canada closed the meeting. A dainty lunch of strawberry shortcake shortcake was enjoyed with our guests. Appreciation was expressed by Mrs. Kay Pickard to Convenor Mrs. Wygerde and group leader Mrs. Irene McKee and Mrs. Gwen Malcolm. Mrs. • Dora Martyn on behalf of Blackstock fittingly thanked thanked Nestleton for the interesting afternoon. Planning Meeting Held An informal meeting was held at the country home of president Mabel Cawker, Scugog Point Road, for the Honeydale Branch of the W.I. Port Perry, to plan programmes programmes for 1987-88. Enjoyable Visit To Nursing Home An interesting hour or so was spent by Honeydale Women's In- situte on Monday afternoon when the Branch "hosted" a variety programme programme k celebrated several birthdays birthdays for residents of the Port Perry Community Nursing Home. It was just great to see old friends once again and have a visit! Happy birthday birthday was sung and the recipients were remembered with gifts, and shared a lovely birthday cake, along with coffee and tea. We thank all those most sincerely who assisted-- to convenor Clara Warren and guest artist Albert Harper -- a special thanks 1 Caearea Regatta News A special baseball game is organized for July 3ist... married ladies versus single ladies... under the directions of Linda Hughes & Joan Pearce. A little brother for Jason. Hie Churches At the Nestleton Presbyterian Church on Sunday at 10 a.m., Rev. Fred Swann conducted the service with Joyce Taylor- organist. Psalm 90. Scripture from Isaiah 41: 1-13 was read. The sermon based on "Fear Not For I Am With Thee." Next Sunday at 10 a.m. with Susan Scott in the pulpit. During July at 10 a.m. supply ministers will conduct the service & during August the church will be closed while Rev. Swann is away. An informal, enjoyable outdoor service with a good attendance was held on Sunday, July 5th, 10:30 a.m. for the Blackstock-Nestleton charge at the attractive grounds of the Cliff Davis home on Scugog Point Road. Cliff & Chris were the perfect host k hostess -- assisted by son Carleton, welcoming all warmly to the service. Rev. Dale k Anita Davis were just back from a relaxing relaxing month long holiday overseas & looked rested & refreshed! So glad to have them at home base again... we surely missed them! Rev. Davis brought a fine message with many thoughts re "Gardens" and old beloved hymns were sung, led by the minister ... assisted by Jill Van Camp with the round- Shalom- Shalom! This lovely lovely service closed with "Thank You Lord" to the tune Edelweiss. Quite a number brought lunch along and enjoyed a fellowship meal k a visit. Some even had a dip in the pool. A delightful morning worship in very pleasant surroundings! We thank Cliff k Chris very much for their hospitality! . At the Caesarea Community Church a very good attendance with Rev. Dr. W.H. Crawford conducting the service. Student Teo Hoekstra of Hamilton Redemeer College spoke on, "Peace or the Sword?" The children's church was held during the service. Music Anne Maschke & Kathy Watt. On this coming Thursday, July 9th, Teo is organizing a recreation for the children from 6:308:00 p.m., a campfire and sing-song to be held at the back of Rev. Crawford's home. Sounds exciting! SO -- kids try to attend! It was nice to meet Teo Hoekstra k his financée Margaret Colyn a few days ago. Social News Janice Williams of Edmonton is holidaying with her parents Arnold k Jean Williams, Nestleton, & other relatives within the area. Audrey Leishman k son William of Reaboro, have been visiting with her mother ■ Mrs. Neta Fish of Nestleton, on Tuesday k Thursday of last week. " Birthday Celebrated Sam k Mabel Cawker, Scugog Point Road, hosted a delightful birthday birthday celebration on Sunday afternoon afternoon at the farm, for daughter-in- law Merna Cawker of Oshawa. Grand Finale To Senior Citizen Month Senior Citizen Month was celebrated when about 40 senior parishioners attended a luncheon at St. John's Anglican Anglican Church, Bowmanville, at noon, Sunday, June 28th. Prior to lunch, the guests were entertained with a variety of sacred and secular songs. Soloists who complemented the choir ensemble were Isobel Stevenson, Margaret Ford and Father Allan Langley. Langley. The tribute to the seniors was sponsored by St. John's Outreach Committee ably assisted by numerous volunteers volunteers from the congregation.
