Prompt Firefighters Saved Local Home Bowmanville homeowner Basil Clieff says firefighters are to be commended for their effort Sunday in saving saving his house at 103 King St. E. Mr. Clieff explains that the fire originated in the attic, possibly due to an electrical malfunction.- It's believed that the fire smouldered for some time before his son noticed a puff of smoke near the eaves of the house and the fire department was called. Mr. Clieff said the firemen firemen arrived in only six mi nutes and quickly had the problem under control. He said damages have been estimated at between $25,000 and $30,000, but adds that without prompt action by the fire department department it would have been far worse. "The volunteer fire department department in Bowmanville should be commended for their fast action," said Mr. Clieff. The blaze occurred at about 12:45 on Sunday, July 12. Police Briefs A 1979 Ford car found completely gutted three miles cast of Hwy 115 July 7, had earlier been stolen from the parking lot of the Jubilee Pavilion in Oshawa. No arrests have been made. A fire caused $20,000 damage at 103 King St. E in Bowmanville, the afternoon of July 12. The fire, which took place at about 1:30 p.m. was evidently caused by faulty overhead wiring. An R.R. #4 Bowmanville man reported finding his tick coon hound dead. The dog's throat had been slashed twice, and the animal animal was still chained to his doghouse.
