To all the new families in the Bowman- ville area we extend a very warm welcome and some background information on the Toro organization. The aims of the Toros are: (a) to promote, encourage and govern organized hockey hockey for boys eligible to compete compete in OMHA hockey representing representing Bowmanville. (b) to teach fair play and sportsmanship. (c) to teach all boys to play the game for the love of the game, taking defeat in the same stride as that of the winner. Last year was a very exciting exciting one of the Toros. The Major Midgets and Major Bantams both captured the All Ontario Championships in their respective ' divisions. divisions. The Novice team had a very successful year as they earned a berth in the final zone play-downs. All the Toro teams represented thé organization very well in their tournaments and in their play-offs. Hawaiian Day was full of fun contests, including the hula-hoop, Best Hawaiian Costume, Diving for Pennies, Biggest Splash, Best Dive, Smallest Splash, Funniest Jump, and of course, our favorite -- Best Belly Flop. It was the introduction introduction of Girls' Hockey in Bowmanville. There were enough girls for the Toros to ice two teams. The Juniors captured the A runners runners up title in the United Counties Girls League. The intermediates made many personal gains throughout the season. The 1987-88 season will offer a full minor hockey program for girls. This will include House League registered registered teams with the OWHA (Ontario Women's Hockey Assoc.) and the opportunity opportunity to try out for one of the United Counties Rep. teams. All teams will be eligible to participate in OWHA sanctioned tournaments. tournaments. There are no try-outs for the Toro girls' teams. All girls have the opportunity to play the game regardless of experience experience or ability.
