The purpose of the tent is to allow non-profit organizations organizations to have booths explaining explaining their services. "The town wants more information information about clubs and services that are available," available," board member, Bill Tomlinson, told the NCSAB meeting on July 8. Because much of the fair's inside space is already already booked, the board came up with the idea of the outside tent. Presently, estimated costs are $800 if the structure structure is self-assembled, but the board is investigating the donation of a tent for the fair. While it's not yet decided who will exhibit in the tent, Mr. Tomlinson said that there are at least 40 groups who could benefit from the project. MIDWAY -| ; . The project consists of a small apartment building containing eighteen one and two bedroom apartments and fifty-two two and three bedroom townhouses. In addition there will be offices, meeting rooms and laundry facilities for the use of the R f, /"* rS / a 1 ! \j z-vai irui residents. Several of the one . Rents or housing charges will be approximately $400. for the one bedroom apartments and $600. for the three bedroom townhouses. The exact rent will be set by the province early in 1987. Income assistance is available from the province for a certain number of households who would be paying more than 25% of their income for the housing charge. Construction is expected to commence in January and be completed in the early fall of 1987. Borelia is the first Co-Op in Port Perry, joining about a dozen others in the Durham Region. It is a concept gaining greater popularity as a significant number of households are unable to find affordable housing in the rental market or are able to purchase their own home. The Borelia Co-Operative is an Ontario Co-Operative Corporation which will own the project. The Corporation is controlled by members who will be the residents of the project. They elect a board of directors among themselves and serve on committees which deal with the operation of the Co-Op. Each household also rents their unit from the Co-Operative. The initial Board of Directors consists of a number of Port Perry residents who have become increasingly concerned about the lack of affordable housing in Port Perry. They started working with Chris Smith and Associates in 1984 in order to develop the Co-Op, acquiring the land, obtaining Municipal approvals and obtaining the necessary Provincial approvals. It has been a long and difficult task, however, well worth it now that all necessary approvals have been acquired. The officers of the Co-Op include Peggy Ridgway. President; Frances Sandison. Vice President; Frank Murphy, Treasurer, and Andy Baca, Secretary. Members at large are Jim Wilbur, Nancy Wagg and Roy Grierson. Chris Smith and Associates are providing the resource group services to Borelia, assisting them in setting up the Co-Op, getting it built and educating the members in the method of operating a Co-Op. Those interested in finding more about the Co-Op or becoming involved should contact Chris Smith and Associates at 686-4787. Prices effective thru Saturday July 18th, 1987.
