Cdn.Tire Midgets In Playoffs With Port Hope Regular season play is over, and the 'Boys of Summer' Summer' are in good form going into the playdowns. Finishing Finishing 4th overall in the Eastern Eastern Ontario Baseball Assoc, standings, the Canadian Tire Midgets qualified to at- . tend the championship tournament held in Belleville Belleville on Aug. 7th, 8th and 9th. Competing teams being, Oshawa, Peterborough, Peterborough, Port Hope, Bow- manville, Little Britain, and the host Belleville. In our first game, the host team, Belleville, failed to field a team for the start of the game, and had to forfeit the game to Bowmanville. Too late, Belleville secured enough players, and a brief exhibition game was under- | , taken. The Boys of Summer used this to their advantage, advantage, sharping their batting skills, and loosening up throwing and pitching arms. In the second game of the day, Bowmanville met up with Little Britain who had finished second in the league. The Bowmanville team got into action quickly by scoring four runs in the first inning, and never I looked back as they wenton I to mercy the Little Britain I team by a score of 13 - 3 in I five innings. I Chris Hall had an excel- I lent outing, allowing only I two hits, and striking out six. Leading the offensive charge were Scott Munro who was four for four on the day with a triple, and Paul Gallant three for three with a double. Backing this up were Darrin Bunker, Dean Baumhauer and Rich Suchan with solid hitting. Unfortunately, the Championship Championship game has to wait, as rain washed out the final game on Sunday. This final game against Peterborough will be played within the next three weeks, as it has to be fit in around the Ontario Ontario playdowns which began this week. The Midgets will open a best of five with Port Hope on Aug, 11, in Port Hope, tiic winner advancing to the All Ontario Championships in Essex on the Labour Day weekend. Best ofluck to the boys, and if you have nothing nothing else to do on a Wednesday evening, come down to Soper Creek park and take in some of the playoff games.
