> The Canadian Statesman. Bowmanvillc. August 12,1987 NeuicaatU 3nbEpcnbent Editors: Hazel and Jack Crago Telephone 987-4201 Orono and District Last week as we walked along our main street, we thought how lovely are the tubs of flowers beautifying King Street in our village of Newcastle. How proud the members of the Chamber of Commerce must be! We must congratulate them on their efforts to make the business part of the village a place of which we may all be proud. Well, Saturday morning, many of the tubs of flowers were no more. All tipped upside down. Why? If the vandals are apprehended, we suggest that they have to plant and care for the tubs of flowers. If we have to work hard all day, we are too tired at night to commit vandalous deeds. How do we teach appreciation of beautiful things? The same Newcastle Chamber Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring sponsoring a parade again this year. Saturday, September 19 is the date. The theme is This Land is Your Land. The members suggest: build a float, make a costume, form a band, drive a vehicle, ride a horse, decorate a bicycle, do your thing. The O.P.P. Band will be performing performing Celebrate Canada, On Wednesday evening, August 5th, President Lorraine Lorraine Lover of the Newcastle Horticultural Society held an executive meeting at her HOPE FORTHE HANDICAPPED | with REV. Most people at some time have heard the sound of the black billed cuckoo, but it is one of the birds which keeps itself out of sight most of the time. It was sad to see one for the first time, after it had crashed into a window and broken its neck. There is a wealth of beauty along the roadside at this time of year. All the weeds here are fresh and green, Queen Anne's lace and chicory are in abundance and goldenrod and wild aster on the verge of making masses of yellow and purple bloom. imiix BETA KING VIDEO Inc.
