Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Kennedy Kennedy and family were Sunday Sunday noon callers with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Campbell, Orono, and had a nice visit with his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Howes and family of Kitchener/ Waterloo. Fred Beaucage of CFRB Farms recently made a speech at the Rotary Club which gave club members a better idea of the responsibilities they would be assuming at the Horse Trials event. Bowmanville Rotary Club members handled the Horse Trials at CFRB Farms on Aug. 30 and from all reports it was a great success; certainly the weather was co-operative and there were plenty of entries in all categories. Total Lot Area 9,800 square feet Horticultural Exhibition Attracts Over 200 Entries BY Verna Robinson The annual show of flowers flowers and vegetables was held Aug. 19 at the Memorial Park Club House, sponsored sponsored by the Bowmanville and District Horticultural Society. There was a smaller smaller than usual attendance to view the show but it was a really good show, despite the very hot dry weather we have had. There were 240 entries from 20 exhibitors of the seniors. The Juniors had 22 entries from 6 exhibitors. Mrs. Narda Hoogkamp of Newcastle Newcastle Society and Mrs. Ruth Tink of Bowmanville Society were the two judges. Winners of the Juniors were Jessica Barrie first and Katy Barrie second for carrots arid beets and Robin Dubeau, third for beets. In the onion division Jo-anne Sutherland was first, Jessica Barrie second and Jackie Sutherland third. Jackie Sutherland was first, Jason Dubeau second and Jo-anne_ Sutherland third in the tomato division. division. For the French Marigolds Jessica Barrie won with Katy Barrie second second and Jo-anne Sutherland Sutherland third. For the flowers of your choice Jackie Sutherland placed first with Jo-anne Sutherland second and Robin Dubeau third. In the herbs Jessica Barrie's basil placed first, Jackie Sutherland Sutherland second and Katy Barrie Barrie third. Best garden plot was won by Jackie Sutherland Sutherland and Jo-anne Sutherland Sutherland placed second.
