A great Fair and everyone was happy with the reeutta! The attendance waa up and gate receipts a way over last year. 17,000 to 88,000. Exhibits were much higher. This was the SOth anniversary anniversary year for the Holstein Show. The many activities were popular! Port Perry Fair is on the way up once again! Our congratulations to the hard working Fair Board and all who assisted in any way. We'll look forward with pleasure to next year! Interesting Speaker At Nestleten Women's Institute On Wednesday afternoon, Neetleton W.I. met at the Community Community Centre and members were pleased pleased to welcome Mrs. Evelyn Prosser as guest speaker on her handicraft "Ceramics." She was accompanied by Mrs. Shirley Hudson and her granddaughter Kimberly. An extensive extensive display had been set up on tables, and after Mrs. Prosser explained explained some of the various stages from greenware to the finished pro- jduct, the ladies had a closer look...and a chance to ask questions. There were animals, birds, figurines, look-alike Hummel and Royal Dalton, music boxes, clock, platee, dolls, and Christmas trees, and decorations, to name a few. Four members are invited to attend the 50th Anniversary luncheon luncheon at Kendal Branch on Sept. 17. President Neta Fish will attend the Fall Convention as a voting delegate to be held in Toronto. The secretary briefly reviewed the three Resolutions to be voted on. Members were reminded that the October meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. C. Pickard, Wilmot Creek. The meeting closed with the Queen and W.I. Grace. Mrs. Irene McKee and group served a delicious lunch and a social time wu enjoyed. Several visitors attended and we hope they will come again. Fred Swann conducted the morning service at 10 a.m. in Nestleton Presbyterian Church after the summer holiday, with Mrs. Joyce Taylor playing the organ. The Psalm was read in unison from the readings in the Book of Praise on Psalm I. The Scripture was 1 Corinthians Corinthians 3: 1-23. Family News of Interest Mrs. Bonnie Bilton and family of Lyndhurst, spent a couple of days with her parents Lawrence and Gwen Malcolm of Nestleton, this past week before school opening. Dennis and Laina Malcolm and family of Ajax and Barry and Joan Malcolm of Simcoe were also weekend holiday guests. Bob and Paul Ford of Toronto, were Sunday visitors. A good friend Mrs. Margaret Duncan Duncan of Whitby, was a weekend guest with John and Marion Hall of Williams Point. Roy and Doris Nottingham of Caesarea, attended the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto on Thursday this past week and enjoyed enjoyed the day immensely. On Sunday evening the Sam Cawkers, Scugug Point Rd., attend- . ed the lovely barbecue "hosted" by Alan and Eleanor Cawker of Oshawa, at their attractive new home, with 21 relatives on hand to enjoy the get-together. The tempting tempting array of food was delicious...seasoned to taste, and the portions anything but skimpy...enjoyed skimpy...enjoyed in a casual dining spot. A great evening for all! Caesarea CammaaHy Church Service was conducted by Rev. Dr. W.H. Crawford with a very good attendance. Rev. Charles Clarke of Prince Albert, was the guest speaker on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. His text was taken from John 21, and he preached about "Dedication" "Dedication" an excellent message! Holy Communion was held with Rev. C. Clarke in charge-assisted by Norman Norman Boynton and Arden Maschke. Scripture read by Rev. Dr. Crawford and Arden Maschke led the Responsive reading. Musicians Anne Maschke and Kathy Watts. On Sunday, September 17, a wiener roast will be held to'gather the children together, at 6:30 p.m. on Jerry's Farm. The weather was absolutely perfect and the crowds were excellent. Congratulations. Many local folk attended the annual annual Kinmount Fair over the weekend as well as the Port Perry Fair. Surely it is a sign that summer is over when the fair season is upon us. Sympathy is extended to several families on their recent losses. Specialist 4-H ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAMS AT BLACKSTOCK FAIR: The 1987 Blackstock Fair was the scene of Achievement Programs for the Durham East Field Crop, Sheep, Swine and Beef 4-H clubs. Members from the Hampton and Blackstock 4- H Sewing Plus clubs also displayed their projects at Blackstock Fair. In the 4-H Field Crop Club under the leadership of Lawrence McLaughlin and Donovan Smith, Howard Howard Sikma placed first in the corn class. Ian Andrews and David Tamblyn placed 2nd and 3rd respectively with their corn exhibits. In the barley class, Brent McLaughlin and Jeff Byers received 1st prize. Shelley Holliday received second f6r 2nd cut hay, Eric and Glenn Barkey tied for 1st and Rene I-Ieeringa received received 2nd. Richard Green received a first place for his silage corn. In the 4-H Sheep Club under the leadership of Jim Coombes and Fred Slemon as youth leader, Tod Ormis- ton was Champion Showman, Showman, while Terry Ormiston was Reserve Showman. In the conformation class, Shelley Holliday showed the 1st place lamb and Shannon Cornish showed the 2nd place lamb. During the 4-H Swine Show under the leadership of Dale, Van Camp, Richard Green placed 1st in showmanship showmanship while Bryan was second. Congratulations. 4H HORSE CLUB HOLDS ACHIEVEMENT DAY: On Thursday, Sept. 3rd, the Durham Est 4-H Horse Club under the leadership of Doug and Mary Ruth Moore, Shelley Delaney and Natalie Warner as youth leader, held a horse show at the farm of Wayne Beckett. As part of their 4-H project, project, members had to demonstrate demonstrate their abilities to groom a horse for show and to show a horse to its best advantage. Valerie Bush, Renee Pleasance, Laura Gilbank, Joanne Carter and Pauline Beckett were in the 1st place grouping in the Grooming Class.
