Drum Corps is beginning to be recognized as the sport that it is. An article in the August 10th issue of Sports Illustrated refers to the recent World Championships Championships in Madison, Wisconsin Wisconsin as "one of the biggest sporting events of the summer." summer." Indiana basketball coach Bobby Knight, a fan of the Star of Indiana Drum Y elverton Orval and Ora Quacken- bush enjoyed this week on vacation by taking a motor trip across from Tobermory via ferry and Manitoulin Island Island and a leisurely holiday in that part of Northern Ontario. Ontario. Mrs. Ida Hurtig of Port Perry and her two guests from Europe (her sister and a cousin) nad a brief visit with Mrs. Ora Quacken- bush recently. Speedy convalescence to our male "mail-man" Melvin Melvin Wright who underwent surgery this week to repair one of his knees with a new joint. Mel has already undergone undergone two successful hip operations in the last few years. We all wish Mel a speedy convalescence. Corrie and Harvey Malcolm Malcolm are currently enroute to the Mitzi and Bob Pick cottage near Eagle Lake for a couple of days of "R. and R"- for us- not our hosts. Other guests include Bob's mother Dorothy and his aunt Grace'- a sort of senior citizen convention you might say??! No! Just checking checking out the loons and vice- versa. Have just returned from our 2-day visit to the Mitzi and Bob "drop-in" Centre- well named basing our comments comments on the several dozen friends and acquaintances who dropped around during during that 2-day period. Another piece of trivia we pass on was the fact that a family of otters have made their home under the Pick dock and were seen periodically periodically in early morning and late p.m. Also we were surprised to learn that the next door neighbours were Reverend and Mrs. John Smith who used to fill in a few years ago at the Blackstock- Nestleton United Church charge. Were disappointed to see the carnage of dead wild animals that littered Highway Highway 35 north. Enroute home we noted a collection of live coons, porcupines and 1 fox crossing, ahead. Our neighbours on the Gray Line (which is 2 miles south of Yelverton and 1 mile east) at the top of Bunker Hill, Marylou Foote is holding an Open House at their farm home on Folk Art on September 12th, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and September 13 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Marylou is a very talented lady who S 'ves classes on "Back-door" ecorative Art. Everyone is welcome. Corps, says, "If a basketball team trained as hard as thèse kids do, it would be unbelievable.
