a Hi The (":m:i(|i;in Sl;ilcsm,-in Storytelling Priest Visits Newcastle Most of us are aware of certain individuals who have played a crucial role in our lives: someone who was there for us when we were down and out, or someone who lifted us from our despair despair and restored us to life again. Even in our daily lives, we are touched by all those we meet. Fr. Gerard Nash believes that people are the "sacred threads" through which we come to experience God in our lives. Our experience of the Sacred need not always be confined to church services services or formal liturgies. His method of lecturing is indicative, indicative, too ,of the joy found in the small things of life. All of us remember the thrill of learning a bedtime story and, as parents, have probably probably reaa many to our children. children. Gerard has made folk- jore his area of expertise and incorporates this and the fine art of stoiytelling into his experience experience of the journey. Fr. Nash holds a B.A. in folklore from Memorial University, University, Newfoundland and has pursued post graduate studies in Sheffield, England and at the Toronto School of Theology. His time travelling travelling in Australia has leant another another perspective to his vision, vision, which he will be sharing sharing with us on Thursday, October 8th at 8p.m. This talk will be given at St. Francis Francis of Assisi Church, Newca- tle Village, and is sponsored by the Newcastle C.W. L. All those who are interested are invited to attend. For information, information, telephone Susan Hendricks at 987-5336. Yelverton (intended for last week) Corn combining started this week for several local farmers who sowed earlier varieties. Some in fact have taken off the corn and already already planted wheat - one of the wonders of modern large machinery is the rapid manner manner in which it transforms the local farm scenery. Due to the bright sunny weather, attendance from our community at Lindsay Fair appeared to be down. The Keith Goble family ran off with a major share of prizes and awards with their Charolais herd, even with considerable competition. If there was a prize given for the folks who came the furthest just for the Fair, it probably would have been awarded to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Werry and their daughter daughter Debbie and her two sons Derek and Michael who drove all the way from Sudbury Sudbury to attend the fair and returned home the same day with them. Miss Mona Malcolm while on a week's vacation from the Royal Bank, took a 2 - day trip, to Ottawa to visit a former University roommate roommate Miss Sheena Grindley in company with her parents. parents. Miss Lana Malcolm of Sarnia Sarnia spent the weekend with her dad Murray and other members of her family. Also participated on Saturday evening with Herbie Vine Band at the dance in Nestle- ton Hall. Deepest sympathy is extended extended to Jean and Arnold Williams and family of Nestleton in the tragic death of a son and brother, Likewise Likewise to Jean's sister Helen in the sudden passing of her fiance fiance a couple of weeks prior . to their wedding. Mark your calendar and / or put a string around your little finger or both so you won't forget Yelverton's annual annual Roast Beef Dinner on Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 12th. Our ladies have a reputation reputation for providing a top - notch meal winch is supported supported by the number of folks who return year after year. (See coming Events for further further details) Communion service was observed at Yelverton United United Church on Sunday with Rev. John Evans presiding assisted by Elder Mary Moore. Linda Pfoh assisted in the service by reading the scriptures and playing the electric organ. After last week's bonanza of a full house, plus anoth er fifty in the basement, this week's attendance reverted to the norm - a baker's dozen or so. One event each year rings an air of finality to summer here at Malcoma. The occasion occasion occurred this weekend when we officially put our pool to bed for tne winter months. This year the event ■ was uneventful compared with last year's escapade when "Mother Superior" inadvertently inadvertently caught her foot and she fell backwards into the pool, ending the 1987 season with a really big splash.
