Courtice Cougar News SOCCER HIGHLIGHTS by Paul Senyk The junior boys' soccer team remained undefeated at 5-0-1 as they squeaked by Bowmanville 3-2. Scoring for Courtice were Kevin Grant with two goals and Jeff Reynolds with the single tally. However, their streak finally finally came to an abrupt end when they were soundly beaten by an experienced Paul Dwyer team 6-1. The lone goal for the Cougars was scored by Andrew Kamondy from a penalty shot. Our boys' singles and dou- 'bles teams participated in the LOSSA tournament in Whitby on Monday, October 5. Congratulations to all team members who played very well. Special mention should go to Laurent De- bovard who played an exceptional exceptional game, losing in the tiebreaker. Team members members were: in men's singles -- Dave Gunn and Laurent Debovard; in men's doubles -- Lance Haluka and Adam Holt, Dean Macko and Joe Gudelj. The midget girls' basketball basketball team narrowly beat Central last week 40-38. Outstanding Outstanding offensive players and high scorers were Michelle Colterman and Karen Rottine. The juniors lost to a strong Central team; however, however, Courtice displayed a strong defence led by Laura Suess and Erin Parfitt. The junior boys' soccer team got back into the winning winning groove after being defeated defeated last week for the first time. They destroyed Van- ier by a score of 6-2. Scoring for Courtice were Ivor McCullough with two goals and singles were earned by Kevin. Grant, Andrew Kamondy, Paul Hindman and Shane Vivian. The senior boys' team shut out Vanier 4-0. NEW TEACHERS This week we spoke with one of theyoungest-appear- ing members of the CSS staff, new addition Miss Prenger, who is teaching grade 11 advanced and general general English as well as grade 10 advanced math. Miss Prenger comes to Courtice right out of the faculty faculty of Education at Queen's University. Before that, she earned hcr B.A. in English at McMaster University. Her student teaching was done in Ottawa and Kingston. Kingston. What's the difference between student teaching and a classroom ol'hcrown? According to Miss Prenger, teaching on your own is much more challenging. You no longer have a framework lor lessons except except for what you develop yourself and there's an opportunity opportunity to implement your own ideas. Miss Prenger is from outside outside of Hamilton near Burlington Burlington and says CSS reminds reminds her of her own high school She likes Court ice so far and would like lo gel involved involved in extra curricular activities with yearbook topping her list.
