We are having this to celebrate. For all of its members from the earliest date. What better day to do just that, celebrate the 25th year of United Church Women as all are doing doing across the country. • October 13, 1987 at 1:30, was a glorious Indian summer summer day. The hugh crowd was warmly welcomed by a beautiful arrangement of Thanksgiving in fall colours and fruit made by Rae Osborne. Osborne. As everyone gathered a hum of voices filled the hall with greetings to fellow church workers over the many years. They came from far and near. Alliston, Georgetown, Sunderland, Blackstock, Whitby, Port Hope, Oshawa, Bowmanville Bowmanville and of course the Eben- ezerites. Finding it hard to quiet the enthusiastic chatter, the regular regular business of the day was conducted by President Joan Coverly, Secretary Joan Pickell and Treasurer Joan Down. During a brief opening opening it was asked "What were you doing in 1962"? A poem was read "Gramma's Rocker." Rocker." Depicting the Grammas of today. Amusing but not surprising with such young Grammas and Great Grammas Grammas present at the meeting. It was noted that a special gift of knitting had been donated donated to mission by Joan Pickell and perhaps one of our oldest U.C.W. ladies present, Margaret Pollock of Oshawa. She surely must have delighted some youngsters youngsters with her red sweater sets. Attention was also drawn to the banner for the anniversary with the logo made by Charlotte Hughes. In charge of the October meeting, which was the Celebration Celebration date, were Margaret Margaret Down and Jean McKnight. Margaret opened with thoughts of old and new friends. In celebrating the founding of United Church Women in 1962 it saw the close connection of the Sunday School ladies, the "Berean Class," Mission Circle, Circle, Evening Auxilary and the Women's Missionary Society. Society. All groups were amalgamated amalgamated into the U.C.W. Margaret touched on memories memories of the Berean Class, that met at the back of the church. Each and every Sunday, Sunday, as the teacher stood between between the pews, a verse was repeated, Micah 6-8. As a further verse of the invitation invitation went- An opportunity opportunity will be given to all, to add their gifts, whether large or small. It will go to missions and you will be glad. As the offering was taken and de- dicted we all felt a part of the work our ladies are still carrying carrying on in a very efficient way. Helen Herron brought us a resume of the 1962 Inaugu-. ral Service and the views and aims of the future of all United Church Women. This portion of the program closed with prayer. All were delighted to have Sadie Courtice, an avid reader, reader, bring us some excerpts from a humorous book by Dr. George Burns using old and perhaps not well understood understood sayings, we found new meaning in "As the saying goes;" "Happy as a clam;" "Got out of bed on the wrong side;" "Happy is as happy does."
