By Denise Lamondin and Nazreen Perris 7A An Editorial: Fitness of the Youth By IVfichael Zdravkowski 6B In Canada most of the children children are not very physical and that really makes me mad. The youth should be able to have a fairly good physical record. The Canadian Canadian Fitness Program was designed designed to encourage children to get fit and physical, but children are not really participating. participating. Sometimes when I am on the yard for recess I see kids stuffing their faces with gum, chips, etc. They should be having fruit or vegetables. In Georgetown, Ontario at a fair they had a fitness test. Fifty people, ages six to fifteen, fifteen, tried the test and 45% failed. Those who did not complete the test had a rough time doing it. Parents are usually bugged to death to drive their children children places. The Canadian fitness Program is divided into six tests that show your speed, power, strength, agility, agility, and endurance. The tests must be given to you by a teacher. Many children run' to their house after school and grab a snack and sit there for the rest of the day and that makes me mad. Twenty-five percent of the children in Oshawa, Belleville Belleville and Scarborough have after school jobs at 3:30. We can do bitter. - I've brought .this idea to you because I am really concerned. concerned. So come on, give it a thought : Are your children really that fit? STEPHEN'S The old library system at St. Stephen's was class pockets ana table monitors. It was that way for over a year. Until Until recently it was changed by Mr. Clark. Now we have file boxes for the cards. Now teachers and students can just come into the library and sign out a book. There is only one problem-you cannot cannot forget the due date slip. If you forget the slip the librarian librarian has to look through all the cards to find the card. This system is easier for the students and teachers but harder for the librarian. Our population population is constantly on the grow each year with 3 grade nine classes this year. Our student council has tripled in size and our sport teams are turning out the people. For the first time at St. Stephen's we have a journalist's journalist's club and a drama club. This year's yearbook will be going into effect soon also. We welcome a whole new mass of teachers to St. Stephen's this year including four new teachers to the high school itself. As well as the new teachers, the high school has also been introduced introduced to some new subjects, uniforms and equipment. As you can see St. Stephen's is really on the grow! Hallowe'en We wrote this poem because the subject interested us. Ghosts and goblins stroll down the street Witches fly through the air Children run from house to house With open bags yelling trick or treat. Bats are flying in the dark sky Listen to the howling moon See the children's costumes so bright On this chilly, scary Hallowe'en Hallowe'en night. g Every picture in the store! the- IV1U7 QAK 14 Albert Street, Oshawa 576-4370 WellgiveyouuptolOoz. of silver whenyoupmdiase one of Nationals superb investments by November 30.
