Garnet Rickard, vice-chairman of the region's fund-raising campaign, is pictured above drawing the three prize winning winning names. Heather Murdoch (middle) and Linda Vance were also on hand to assist with the draw. The first place barbeque went to Rosemary Rutledge, Peterborough. Second prize of a - one year membership to the Fitness Centre tyas won by Aubrey Rees, Bowmanville, and the third prize ghettoblaster was tvon by Darla Lowery from Orono. The draw raised a total of $1134.00 for the United Way campaign. Shirley irene draper ; A teacher at the Durham ■College of Applied Arts, and Technology, Shirley Irene (Draper, aged 61, died Saturday, Saturday, October 24, 1987, in Mississauga Hospital, following following a lengthy illness. The Reverend Wayne Chatterton Chatterton officiated at the funeral funeral services held on Monday, at the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Funeral Home, Bowmanville. The soloist was Will Staples. Scriptures chosen and farewell farewell message by the deceased deceased were read by Bert Dejeet. During the weekend, he received visits from members of his immediate family including grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Birthday greetings were received from the Governor General of Canada, Madame Jeanne Suave; Prime Minister Brian Mulroney; Allan Lawrence M.P.; Sam Cureatz, M.P.P.; Mayor John Winters and Base Line Community. A plaque came from Premier David Peterson and a lovely floral arrangement from the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle. Mr. Metcalf enjoys good health and found this occasion most enjoyable. Eldad and Hampton United Church Women filled the Christian Education Centre of Hampton United Church on October 26th for a banquet marking the 25th anniversary of the U.C.W.'s founding. Sedgwick spoke on how Hallowe'en got its name from Holy Eve being the eve before All Saints' Sunday. He spoke on "We belong to the Day." Coffee was served at the close. The seniors met as usual and we planned our Christmas Christmas dinner for Nov. 26, the place to be decided later. Elizabethville Sunday School was to have a Hallowe'en Hallowe'en party at Sunday School Nov. 1st. Mrs. J. Peacock and Mrs. Vera Peacock visited with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lee, Peterborough on Sunday. Mrs. Mary Trew and Beatrice Beatrice Rowcliff had tea with the Peacocks this week. Mr. and Mrs. H. Quantrill were with Mr. and Mrs. O. Mercer for tea Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Trew were in to see his mother, Mrs. Greta McMillan, in Port Hope Hospital, Sunday. Sunday. She is about the same. Mrs. B. Muldrew came home from the hospital on Friday. Walter Longyear is still in but expects to go to a rest home soon. Marlene Austin and the children visited with Irene Beatty during the week, also Shirley and her family. Irene had tea with Burtons on Sunday evening. Mrs. Burton had a small operation operation on her throat on Thursday. Thursday. Mrs. Westheuser called at Thicksons on Friday on her way to Port Hope where the teachers were learning about the new report card system. i On Saturday, the Garden Hill Library held its Holiday Holiday Fair where discarded books and crafts were sold. Tables of knitted goodà; crochet articles; potted plants; dolls; stuffed animals; animals; wood work such as stools, small stands; flower arrangements and other crafts were there with their creators to tell about them. Last Thursday was the Seniors' Pot Luck Birthday Dinner for October.
