) Toro Midgets Win 7-1 On November 1 the Toro Midgets hosted Pickering Village in a league game at Darlington Arena. The first period v/as scoreless, but Pickering scored early in the second on a penalty shot af ter being tripped up on a bread away. Late in the sec- e ay. ond period, with a two man advantage Guy Freeman tied the game with assists oing to Mark Tripp and " oy Harness. Minutes later Shane Armstrong gave the Toros the lead with help from Dean Baumhauer and Stephen Smith. 1116 third period saw the Toros score 5 unanswered goals to win the game 7-1. Nick Dennis had a strong third period getting himself a hat trick. His first goal came when the teams were 4 aside, another came when the Toros had a power play, and his third was a nice move on the Pickering goal tender when the Toros were playing short handed. Assists Assists on Nicks three goals were given to Shane Armstrong, Armstrong, Brad Carnegie, Rob Real, Dean Baumhauer and Neil Taylor. Bowmanville scored 2 unanswered goals on the power play in the first period, the first one coming from'Shane Armstrong hall way through the period. Greg Healey and Si Smith set it up from goa sneaking it in around the corner of the net. Mark Tripp and Troy Harness assisted assisted on Tony VanHoofs goal from the blue line late in the period while the Toros had a two man advantage. It was great to watch these players pass the puck around just waiting for the right time to shoot and make it count. In the second period 5 goals' were scored by the Toros as follows: Mark Tripp deflected deflected a hard shot from Troy Harness, also assisted by Greg Goode; Britt Cole scored from the point after good passing plays were made by Tony VanHoof and Shane Armstrong; Shane snuck into the slot on a power power play and made it count witn assists going to Greg Healey and Britt Cole; Brad Carnegie one-timed a pass from Shane also assisted by Tony; and Mark Tripp made some good moves on the ;oal tender to put it up over is shoulder for his second goal of the game. Britt Cole and Neil Taylor helped out on that one. The third period saw one Toro goal scored by Stephen Smith on a rebound. Shane and Greg Healey got assists. The Toros did all the right things in this game, making those chalk talks pay off. It was a different story, however, when the same Toro team played the Pickering Pickering Major AA team two nights later. The first period saw Bowmanville take a 2-1 lead with goals being scored by Brad Carnegie and Stephen Stephen Smith. Brad Carnegie got his second of the night alter taking a lovely pass from Nick Dennis, ana Stephen Smith got his second goal late in the period on a snort handed play assisted by Greg Healey. The Toros came out. after the flood to score early in the third period on a power play goal by Troy Harness with Mark Tripp and Greg Goode assisting. It was after that ? oal ana a 6-2 lead that the 'oros faded. They watched, Pickering score 4 consecutive consecutive goals in much the same fashion by not taking their man out of the play or stopping stopping them at tne blue line. With Pickering tying the game at 6 apiece, Stephen Smith decided he'd better help his own cause, and got his hat trick on another short handed goal. Nick Dennis helped him on this one. Good hustle guys! The Toros didn't seem to want to protect protect their one goal lead, and let Pickering come into their end for two more goals to win it 8-7. Atoms Win Two The start of the BRHL season season found Hutton Transport moving from the Pee Wee to the Atom division. This appears appears to be a positive move with the truckers winning their first two games. On October 17, Hutton defeated defeated London Life by a 1 to 0 score. Mark Read got the lone goal with assist going to Chad Venoit. Steve ÿargent and Robbie Robbins combined combined for the shut out. On October 24, Hutton defeated defeated 401 Esso by a 5 to 3 score. Mark Read had another another good game connecting for three goals and one assist. The other goal scorers were Leslie McCory and Chad Venoit with assists going to Mike Tallotti, Jack Laverty and Greg Knox.
