BIG TORO TOURNAMENT -- Whether you're a hockey parent or not, set aside November 28 for a day of exciting exciting all-star hockey at the Darlington Sports Centre. That's the date of the annual Novice tournament-- an event which demonstrates that even at the ages of eight and nine, the calibre of hockey skills is incredible. Championship games will commence at the following times: D Championships 4 p.m.; C Championships 5 !t>.m.; B Championships 6 p.m.; A Championships 7 p.m. Look for the Toros in the A championships. To date, they've been playing top notch hockey. ; ARENA BREAKDOWN -- As this is being written, we understand that the town will proceed with repairs . to the ice making machinery at the Bowmanville Arena in order to have the ice surface back in service ^within two or three weeks. Elsewhere in this edition, we'll carry the full details of the story. Apparently, Lthe arena's chiller broke down over the weekend and users of the building have had to be accommodated elsewhere. Congratulations to waverley public SCHOOL -- Their mixed soccer team captured the junior schools championship for Bowmanville. We'll be running their photograph soon, although you'll i have to bear with us because there is a big demand for photos at this time of the year and it takes some effort to get them all slotted into the paper as required. It's part of the usual Christmas rush. But if it gets any busier around here, we may need a control tower. WINS RADIO-CONTROLLED VEHICLE COMPETITION COMPETITION -- Alan Nesbitt was the winner of the B division competition for radio-controlled racing cars. He was a competitor in the recent hobby exhibition held at the. international Centre in Toronto. Alan was also an award- winner in the Bowmanville Radio Controlled Car Club this past summer. WOMEN'S HOCKEY -- Yes, Women's hockey is alive and well in this municipality. There are two BMHA Toros teams at the junior and intermediate levels. The juniors (age 15 and under) play at the Darlington Sports Centre from noon to one p.m. and the intermediates (age 20 and under) play each Saturday night at Darlington Darlington between 7:30 and :8:30. In addition, there is a tfldies' Senior D team running out of the Orono Arpna every Friday night at 9:15. This is an open age category, With most participants over 20. For further information, call 623-6757. Approximately 64 teams participated in the Master-Junior tournament held November 1 in Oshawa's Motor City Bowling Lanes. The Bowmanville-based team of Joan Murphy (master bowler), and Sandy Snowden and Shawn Pappas won the tournament and will travel to Hamilton on Saturday, November 14, to participate in the provincial finals. Toro Midgets Win 2 of 3 Toro Midget 2's were quite active during the week of October 25, playing three games, winning two. Dykstra's Peewees Beat McRobbie's On Saturday, October 31st at the Bowmanville Arena, Dykstra's Deli Pee Wees defeated McRobbie Photo by a 6 to 5 score. Steve Baker's first of two goals opened the scoring for Dykstra's on a three way passing play from Jeff Johnston and J.P. Tousignant. Jeff Martin banged in his own rebound after three tries in front of the net and assisted on two other goals. Jeff Johnston tallied four points in the game with two goals and two assists. Scott Anderson scored unassisted on a wrist shot that proved to be the winning goal. Behind by a 6 to 1 score in the third period, McRobbie's poured on the pressure scoring four goals. Monday Night On October 31, at the Darlington Darlington Arena, the Canadian Tire Major Atoms defeated Pickering Village 3-0. The players and spectators were unexpectedly treated to a pre-Hallowe'en Eve .visit .visit by Hermit the Frog and Miss Piggy and much to the Bowmanville boys' surprise, the Pickering boys took to the ice in full Hallowe'en make-up. The Bowmanville team took this all in their stride, and managed, with good team work, to control the entire game. The Canadian Tire goalies, Steve Oke and Byron Harnum, showed us some great saves, which come from hard work and excellent training. The three Bowmanville goals are credited to Jeff Murphy, Ryan Robinson, and Gary Adams. Assists go to Ryan Robinson, Gary Adams, Adams, Jason Hoffman, and Doug Parkin. Congratulations on a game well olayed. On November 1, the Canadian Canadian Tire Atoms travelled to Iroquois Park to do battle against the Whitby Minor ." Atoms and defeated them 6-2.
