But she's retiring retiring from her duties and, as a result, a party was held at the school in her honor last Tuesday, Dec. 1. Gifts were presented from parents and school staff including other secretaries from the area schools. From left are: Principal Gene Murdoch; Brenda Shackelton, representing the parents; Les Ricard, the husband of the guest of honor; BevRicard; Diane Michaelis, a grade three teacher at Vincent Massey; Stan Green, principal at Ontario Street; and Dick Merkley, the retired principal of Vincent Massey. Blackstock it District Lions Club News On Monday evening, Nov. 30th, the Blackstock & District (Cartwright) (Cartwright) Lions hosted the Zone meeting in Nestleton Community Centre. 10 members were present... 59 Lions on hand ... all told. Zone Chairman Lion Mike McAuley of Mount Albert, was an honoured guest. The Lioness Club served the excellent dinner. A fine evening to remember! Nestleton United Church On Advent 11 Sunday, a cold December morning, Lawrence & Gwen Malcolm were the warm greeters at the door. After the goodly goodly number of worshippers had assembled, Rev. D. Davis gave the call to worship and the Doxology was sung and he lit the first candle of Love and the 2nd candle of Hope. Hie children enjoyed the Christmas story re- Advent Candles as told by the minister. The Ladies Quintet in the choir sang "The Peace of Christmas Day" very nicely with Gwen Malcolm accompanying. Rev. Branch With a number of guests present, the Nestleton Branch held their Christmas luncheon in the Nestleton Community Centre, Wed. Dec. 2nd, ' 12:30 p.m. with president Neta Fish extending a cordial welcome to all. After a bountiful buffet was enjoyed enjoyed ... the regular meeting followed, followed, opening with the Ode & Collect. Minutes were approved as read by secretary Gwen Malcolm and the treasurer's statement was presented by Rika Wygerde. Correspondence Correspondence included a letter from Conservation Authority, an appeal from Scugog Community Care ... and a parcel from Grove Institute, England. A parcel had been sent to the Grove Institute from the Nestleton Branch, as is the annual custom. The Grade II Proficiency Award (Henry Thompson Memorial) was won by Tiffany de Knecht. The Roll Call of stamped Christmas cards and a small handmade handmade Christmas ornament will be sent to shut-ins and former members etc. Kay Pickard, convenor convenor of Family It Consumer Affairs Affairs was in charge of the excellent programme. Kay had planned it around the Motto "To Build For the Future, Learn From the Past." Of interest was a word contest re- Christmas and was won by Win- nifred Davidson, and the president closed with a parody on "The Night Before Christmas." Carols were sung with Gwen Malcolm at the piano. Appreciation was expressed, by Winnifred. No meetings in Jan. It Feb. Next regular meeting will be Wed. March 2nd, 1:30 p.m. at the home of Winnifred Winnifred Davison. Nestleton Presbyterian Church The morning Church service was conducted by Rev. D. Kemble, a retired minister from Peterborough, Peterborough, a former classmate of Rev. F. Swann, who is at present in ill health. Mrs. Joyce Taylor presided presided at the organ. Psalm reading was No. 666 from the Book of Praise, and the Scripture was Isaiah 26:1-9 and St. Luke I: 39-56. A hymn observing Advent If Sunday was sung. Rev. Kemble's message was based based on verse 3 - "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee" - a song of confidence confidence in God in trying times. The Ladies Aid will meet at the church on Thurs. at 1:30 p.m. A meeting of the Board of Managers will be held on Friday at 7 p.m. Interesting News of People Weekend guests with Lawrence It Gwen Malcolm were daughter Bonnie Bonnie Bilton and family of Lyndhurst. It was nice to welcome Bonnie and her children to Church on Sunday. Daniel, Samuel, Timothy, Sarah, Rebecca, Benjamin, Joseph, Martha Martha and Jonathon were a welcome addition to the congregation. On Friday afternoon, the Sam Cawkers of Scugog Point Road were delighted to have the following girls for tea and a real visit, from Port Perry- namely- Clara Warren, Jean Camochan and Grace Bassant from the Honeydale Women's Institute. On Sunday evening another pleasant pleasant visit was enjoyed when Alan it Eleanor Cawker of Oshawa were supper guests. Caesarea Community Church A fine attendance on Sunday morning morning at the Caesarea Church with Rev. Dr. W.H. Crawford conducting the service. Guest minister was Rev. Rudy Heezen from Whitby.
