This is always always a busy time of the year and flies by. We hope there will not be a big lag the last week of the year, and resulting resulting illness by being too tired and over-indulgent with special special Christmas feasting. Pace out your celebrations sensibly sensibly if possible. The St. Thomas More Parish had a very successful bazaar in Grace Presbyterian Presbyterian Church, Millbrook. Thanks to all those who helped make it possible, including including the ones who patronized patronized it. Raffle winners at the Bazaar Bazaar were: 1st prize (beautiful (beautiful cedar chest), Bob Martell, Millbrook. 2nd prize (handcrafted (handcrafted doll house), Debbie Kimball, Fraserville. 3rd prize (gingerbread house), Malcolm Kidd, Newcastle. Other lucky prize winners were Mrs. Ross Kimball, Fraserville. who won a lovely lovely doll, ana Mrs. Lois Thex- ton, Millbrook, won the twenty pound turkey. Congratulations Congratulations to everyone. Tom and I spent a pleasant pleasant few days in Ottawa visiting visiting my brother, Bob Edmonds, Edmonds, and his wife, Shelley. This was ou.r first chance to see them in their home since they returned from Italy three years ago. It was very educational to be able to sit in on the last part of Friday's morning Question Period. There were a few members present (many at the first ministers' conference in Toronto) but some good points were raised, one being the need for adequate day care to benefit benefit working parents. Another Another had to do with a diplomatic diplomatic visit of a member to South America to see the best way of assisting the Nicaraguans. Flora MacDonald seemed to be responding actively from the Government side of the House of Commons and met witha delegation afterwards. This visit concluded with a tour of the Parliament Buildings Buildings on the Senate side. It was interesting to see the Library. Library. We were told that Ottawa Ottawa is the coldest capital city in the world. Both Friday and Saturday, Saturday, for a brief time, we went window shopping, and picked up a few souvenirs, in the Rideau Street Mall. Tjhere was every possible item one might want to buy, but, it didn't seem to be a place to find a bargain, especially especially in clothing. Our own shops in Bowmanville, Lindsay, Lindsay, Peterborough and Osnawa are better for that. Before taking us to the bus station, Bob drove us around the City of Ottawa and also some in Hull for about thirty miles. The Rideau Rideau Canal is the longest skating rink in the world. Sunday, November 29th was the first Sunday in Advent. Advent. The special Advent wreath was started. The candle stayed lit, once the fan was turned off. In the Children's Time, Reverend Smith talked about snowflakes snowflakes being individually designed. designed. They sang a Christmas Christmas song, along with the tape accompaniment. The adults listened to a veiy interesting interesting story entitled " A Refugee Christmas " by William William R. White, which seemed to fit in, given the world situation situation in which we live. Brittaney Caldwell (formerly (formerly Sandra Stronge) is still experiencing very extreme extreme allergic reactions. She is able to eat only 2 foods. Please keep her and her par- . ents in your prayers. If you wish to write to her, or send her a card, her addres is R.R. #2, Pontypool, Ontario, LOA 1KO, but be sure not to use scented stationery or scented pens or even ordinary paper which you have touched with hands recently in contact contact with cold cream, perfume, perfume, etc. The special Christmas dates to remember are December December 13th, which is White Gift service put on by the Sunday School with the congregation congregation invited to share in a party in the basement after the presentation. December 16th, Wednesday, is the joint St. Thomas More Parish and Pontypool United Church at 7:00 p.m. December 20th is Christmas Communion in the morning and at 4:00p.m. the joint carol service ot Bethany Bethany United Church and St. Paul's Anglican Church at the Anglican Church. The Christmas Eve service will be at 7:00 p.m. The Christmas Bingo was on Wednesday, December December 9th. Bingo resumes its regular winter games on Wednesday, January 6th. Those who regularly help with these evenings appre ciate your patronage. The staff of the Pi Pontypc ixie L ool Foodmart and Dixie Lee were treated to Christmas Dinner by Doug and Chris Pingle. This year's dinner was at the New Dutch Oven resturant in Orono. We heard that all 20 employees had a really good time. On Monday, November 30th, there were many in the bowling league took advantage advantage of bowled off scores to get a start on Christmas preparation and other bowled off against some time in the winter season. The high bowlers for November November 23rd were Rita with a High Single score of 216 and Agnes with a High Double Double score of 381. On Wednesday, December December 2nd, the Guides held a very special enrollment. The S 'rls involved were Jennifer systra, Amanda Muirhead, Melissa Nyhof, Cora Gayn- or, Brandy Nie and Pamela Quirk. They were each presented presented to leader Rose Sailer, recognized as a new Guide leader from Brownies, by Patrol Leaders, Jackie Cross and Sarah Campbell. Each new guide was presented with the enrollment pin, title strips, and scarf. There were a total of nine got Law Awareness Badges and Kathleen Lloyd received a badge for Guide History. They worked on cookie and canay houses, a craft intended intended for the week before, when the meeting was cancelled because of poor weather conditions. They came back to the Pontypool Community ~ fo games, of which there were 11 tables. Eileen McMillan was the High Lady with 80. Second Hign Lady was Bessie Bessie VanDam with 74. High Man was Stanley Wrignt with 70. Second High Man was Paul Mucha with 69. Winners of the draw were Lawrence Adams and Mildred Mildred Britton. The last meeting meeting of the 1987 year for them is December 17th. "Many times it takes real courage to stand up and be counted.
