Meeting On Wednesday evening December 7th, 23 ladies of the Shiloh U.C.W. met at the home of our President Sherrill Souch for our Christmas meeting. Sherrill welcomed us and wished us all "A Merry Christmas," following which everyone sang several Christmas carols starting with "Joy to the World," The devotional "What makes Christmas?" was read by Ellen Farrow and Mary- Lou Fonk. Happy Birthday was sung to Ruth Robinson for her birthday this month and the Birthday Box was then opened. Reports were given by Sandra Goorbarry and Margaret Todd. Donations were sent to the Salvation Army for Christmas and to the Big Brothers Association. The U.C.W. is to buy a plaque for the stand in the church on which the Bible sits that was given in memory of the late Rev. Aubrey Tizzard. Next meeting will be on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 January 20th. Gifts were then handed out to everyone by Trudy Souch acting as Santa. A super Christmas lunch was served with Pat Windatt and Wilma Robinson winning the luckv cup prizes. V & G Novices V & G Novices hung onto first place in the House- league by tying Adam & Eve 3-3 in a nerve racking game on Saturday, December 13 at the Bowmanville arena.. Goal scorers for V & G each with a single are Derek Hall, Chris Pauquette, and Chad Unsworth. Assists go to Chris Pot and Paul Hollingsworth. Hollingsworth. Mark Murphy for V & G and Brad Johnson, Adam & Eve, both played an excellent game in goal. IOOF Peewees Down Trenton I.O.O.F. Peewee Selects played twice on Sunday meeting Thornhill Selects at Darlington in the morning and suffering their first loss of the season in a game that was scoreless for the first two periods. But in the third period the I.O.O.F. Peewees learned that you cannot win a hockey game in the penalty penalty box and Thornhill scored three quick goals to get the victory. The Peewee Selects regrouped regrouped and headed, for Trenton in the afternoon and after a slow start the Selects Selects skated away with a 7 to 2 victory with Marty Burgess Burgess scoring 4 times with 1 assist and Jason Wichman, J.P. The seven-year-old, Hampton School student received her prize on Saturday, December 12. A poster, book marks and button were given to her from the library staff. She was among the participants in the "library helper for a day" contest. Lung Assn. Brings Cheer to Marnwood House The Lung Association brought a little Christmas cheer to Marnwood House, Bowmanville, December 11. Holly in beautiful baskets was delivered to several of the patients at the home. Over 60 volunteers for the Lung Association delivered delivered 100 baskets to elderly shut-ins, and residents of nursing homes and chronic care hospital wards across the region. (416) 723-4163 On November 26th, the girls played their second game against Peterborough. It was a very exciting game as they skated to a 2-2 tie. Peterborough opened the scoring in the first period. In the second period the United Counties girls scored their two goals. The first was by Laura Abrams from Lome Pearson and Kelly Smith. Then Suzanne Brooks teamed up with Lisa Morrison Morrison to put the United Counties Counties in the lead. In the third period the Peterborough girls scored their second goal. On December 5th, the United Counties girls went into their first tournament. This was Peterborough, In the first game they played Peterborough. This time Peterborough Peterborough finally beat the United Counties by a score of 4-2. United Counties opened the scoring in the first period, when Laura Abrams Abrams scored unassisted. This awakened the Peterborough girls, who roared back with three goals in the second period. In the last period, Jenny Keller put the United Counties within pne goal. Peterborough Peterborough was to put in one more goal to win. In the second game of the tournament, the United Counties played Scarborough. Scarborough. It was a very close game. But Scarborough scored the only goal of the game. It was a superb performance performance by Tina Pilling, the goalie and a terrific amount of work by the rest of the team to keep this game so close. On December 12th, the ' girls played host to the Mis sissauga rep. team. Even though the score was quite lopsided in favor of Mississauga, Mississauga, it was a good experience experience for the local girls. Leeann Somerscales- scored the only U.C. goal, a short handed effort that was assisted assisted by Suzanne Brooks and the United Counties goalie, goalie, Kelly Smith.
