This year a valuable addilion to the Grade Ten Program was a three day unit on Suicide Awareness. The students are now aware that there is help and that they can help deal with this serious situation. By helping them to understand, they can help in prevention. Content, however, is only one part.of a student's studies. Just as Important are the skills they develop which will help them succeed at post secondary Institutions and in the world. The opportunity Is provided to acquire and enhance their oral and written communication skills, their research skills, their problem solving skills, their critical thinking and judgment skills, and their ability to manage their time and energy. Their honing of these skills allows them to expand their knowledge even further. This school year, there are almost 500 students taking a course In History and Contemporary Studies. They • have decided that History Is an important discipline to pursue and that the credits earned are valuable on their diploma. Parents or students interested In any aspects of the History and Contemporary Studies Program are encouraged to get In touch with Mr. John Morris, the Department" Head or any of the members of the Department.
