Bowmanville. December 23.1987 15 Orono Downs Port Perry On December 2nd, Orono Bantams travelled to Port Perry for a league game. Very early in the first period Mark (Romeo) Cholmonde- ley scored, with well earned assists going to (Rowdey) Rob Rowe ana (Big Gun) Jamie Jamie Ball. Stutt's Bantams took full control of the game with Brian (Trucker) Rodd scoring two goals with assist on the first goal going to defenseman defenseman Jason (Stretch) Major and winger (Big Gun) Jamie Ball assisting on the second. Orono going into the second second period with a 3-0 lead, added to the assault with two unassisted goals by Romeo Romeo Cholmondeley and Todd (Gumby) Gray. Port Perry finally getting on the score board when they squeaked one by Billy (Blocker) Todd in net. Mighty Matt Stephenson came back to score unassisted. unassisted. At the start of the third perid, Port Perry scored three goals when Orono was hampered with penalties. Seconds later they were shut down again when (Short Shift) David Sheridan scored unassisted with a blazing shot that devastated the Port Perry goalie. Seconds Seconds later Brian (Tucker) Rodd tucked in Mighty Matt's pass to put Orono on the score board again. Port Perry mustered up enough energy to score the final goal of the game which ended in an 8-5 victory for Orono. Orono had managed to tie Manvers when they met for the first time. Manvers came back full steam for revenge. Early in the first period, Brian Rodd and Matt Stephenson Stephenson combined to put Orono on the scoreboard. Manvers came back to even the score. Ororio's two de- fensmen mighty Stephenson and Andy (Coach) Taylor paired to take the lead again. Orono picking up several penalties allowed Manvers to run the score up with four fast goals. With only 39 sec- ondsleft in the second period Todd (Gumby) Gray scored with a set up from beside the net by Matt. Orono the underdogs going going into the third were put down farther with two goals by Manvers. Orono defense- men gathered steam enough to score their final goal, credits credits going to Andy (Coach) Taylor, Matt Stephenson ana (Rowdie) Rob Rowe. Manvers popped another goal to end the game in an 8- 4 loss for Orono. A strong game by Jason Majors, Rob Rowe, Andy Taylor, Brian Rodd, Todd Gray and Matt Stephenson. Better luck next time boys. On December 12th Orono entered a tournament hosted by Manvers. Their first game was against Wainfleet who were a strong skating team that kept Orono on their toes. Orono scored first with a pass from defenseman Andy Taylor to Todd Gray then over to Jeff (Smurf) Hart- wig who let a blistering shot go to beat Wainfleet's goalie. Wainfleet outshot Orono but thanks to Billy (Blocker) Todd and goalposts they couldn't sink one until late in the second period, which tied the game. With only one minute left in the second period period Orono's Brian (Trucker) Rodd after alot of hard work, scored the winning goal assisted by Todd (Gumby) (Gumby) Gray. Orono advanced to the "A" side with the 2-1 victory. The next game was against Oshawa Blackhawks a very aggresive team. Oshawa opened the scoring scoring at the seven minute mark of the first period, scoring two goals. With 28 seconds left in the first period Jason (Boom, Boom) Burnham deflected deflected Dusty Reid's shot which was set up by Brian Rodd. Great team work. Going into the second period Oshawa sunk another only to be answered by Orono Orono seconds later when Brian Rodd scored on a pass from Todd Gray. On to the third period down by a goal. Orono comes back to tie the game at the 3:46 mark with Todd Gray, Rob Rowe and Jeff Hartwig combining their efforts. efforts. Oshawa broke the tie and won the game with seconds seconds left.
