In the fall of 1987, Bowmanville Bowmanville High School began its search for adults willing to volunteer their time, during school hours, to assist teachers in the classroom. "We are very pleased with our volunteer program. It's been terrific for volunteers and students alike. All we can hope is that it continues to grow," said program coordinator, coordinator, Norm Johnson. The program concept, a first for this area, provides students needing extra attention attention and assistance with adult guidance. She is a professional professional Storyteller for Minnow Minnow Books, and has a Permanent Permanent Teachers Certificate Certificate for Elementary School, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree Degree from York University. She has served as a remedial remedial Teacher Volunteer for the Durham Board of Education, Education, as Chairperson of the Parent Advisory Board for O'Neill Collegiate and the National Committee for the United Church dealing with children's curriculum. She has been active in community community organizations, and is a Past President of the Board of the Oshawa District District Council Boy Scouts of Canada, and the Oshawa Newcastle- Whitby Big Sisters Sisters Association. She has also been. recently appointed appointed to the Board of the YWCA. Richard Jones has had extensive extensive industrial experience, experience, particularly in the aircraft industry. He started his career as an engineering engineering apprentice at the DeHavilland Aircraft Company Company in England. After working there for a period of time he transferred to DeHavilland's Canadian Company in Downsview, Ontario.
