( 1ER 18 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, January 20, 1988 Shoppers Tykes Record Win Over Skylight On Saturday, January 16, Shoppers and Skylight Tyke teams played a very entertaining; entertaining; hockey game. Chris Watson opened the scoring with some good stick work around the goal, to beat Skylight's goalie. Erik Griffin scored minutes later to take a 2-0 lead after one period. In the second period, Mike McCrory scored two quick goals by picking up loose pucks at center ice and scored on breakaways. Skylight Skylight got back in the game with Andy Griffin providing the scoring on two good individual individual efforts. In the third period, Skylight Skylight pressed hard, but Jake Davis came up big with some good saves. Late in the third period Mike McCrory scored to give him another hat trick for the season. fnr LOW, LOW . Kool were missing Rick MacCheyne while Nichols were missing Ken Comish, Paul Chisholm and Brent Sainsbury. Kool opened the scoring early in the first period only to see Nichols storm back when Kris Matheson, playing playing on defense, sent Billy MacIntyre and Mike Col- bourne in on a two on one with Mike finishing off the play with his first of two of the day. Luckily, Mike had found a "lucky" stick to play with. In the second, Billy and Mike worked three more 2 on l's with Billy scoring once. Dave Aldridge scored to up the score to 3-1 on a beautiful set-up by Gilbert Holder; Steve Kay also assisted assisted on this goal. In the third, Mike scored his second when a pass from Billy put him in the clear and his hard shot found the net. Shawn Baumhauer had passed to Billy to also earn an assist. Dave scored his second of the game, again from Gilbert to finish the scoring for Nichols. The game featured a penalty penalty shot which was taken by Gilbert. Gilbert deked the goaltender but was unable to raise the puck over the outstretched outstretched stick. ■ Gilbert's stick had no "lift" in it this day as 2 or 3 times during the game the puck refused to leave the ice when he shot it. Carter's Novices In Deadlock At Second Place Carter's Bakery Novice team overcame a couple of big hurdles after losing to Jimmy's 4-3 on Jan. 2nd. We came to play hard on Jan. 9 against A&E and gained a last minute come from behind tie 5-5; with Trevor Wright being pulled in favour of a sixth attacker. Emile Saloman counted big with 3 goals with Colin MacDonald and Phillip Gu- shulak notching one each. Jeff Carter sent out as the sixth man with one minute left, dug the puck out of the corner and into the slot for Emile to one time it into the net for the tie. On Sat., Jan. 16, Carter's earned a share of second place by beating V&G 3-2 in what had to be our best game of the season. Everyone Everyone came to do a job that they knew was important as V&G had gone the first half of the season undefeated. Carter's got up by one goal early in the first, scored By Emile Saloman only to have V&G tie it at 1-1 with a goal by Chad Unsworth. Carter's went ahead again with a goal by Colin MacDonald MacDonald only to nave Chris Pott put one in over David Yel- lowlees' shoulder. Emile finally finally notched the winner late in the third period. Carter's forwards played extremely well forechecking, forechecking, notably' Niki Zdravkovski, Ted Fitzgerald, Greg Hoy, Ben Medd and Karl Wiener having their best game of the year in their familiar wingers spot. Jason Frayne played right wing in this game being shifted from defence for special duty. Good work, Jay. Defence group of P. Drummond, B. Alysworth, T. Wright and C. MacDonald did a fine job in front of David David who also had his best game in goal this year. Centre emn Emile Saloman, Saloman, Jeff Carter and Jeff Finney did a great job back- checking and forecnecking a good 2-way game. The boys gave 110% for these two points for Mr. Wright and Phillip Gushulak who were away.
