Thlckson Our Institute was held on Tuesday and on Thursday the seniors net for the first meeting in 1988. We didn't join but will join next week when Mrs. Plooard comes home. We haven't our raffle tickets for our quilt yet but hope to have them soon. About 30 attended. On Friday, Mrs. C. Mercer Mercer entertained the seniors at the Tower of Hope, singing and playing. I went along for company and saw Mr. and Mrs. J. Horner; Gerty Beatty; Beatty; Pearl Wilson; and Anna Retallick at the residence. Church services were held as usual. Reverend Sedgwick conducted the service. service. The choir sang an anthem. anthem. Scriptures were read from Mark 1 : and Acts 19: Reverend Sedgwick spoke on "Missing Dimension Dimension of Christian Experience." Experience." Announcements: Annual Congregational meeting will be January 26th at Garden Hill. Collection was taken up by Mr. Smith and Gregory Smith. Mr. Jackson Peacock and Jennifer Taylor were at the door. Coffee was served as usual. On Sunday a bowling tournament was held in Co- bourg for the high scorers. Teams from Port Hope and Cobourg competed. The subject for to-day was Citizenship and Legislation. Legislation. Mrs. Trew read a paper on Coloring Margene. Mrs. Baziw read a poem. A Nutty Contest was won by Mrs. Barkwell. Mrs. C. Yelverton Pleased to see the comprehensive comprehensive article on this years Cooperator of the Year-Mr. John Stone of Oro- no appear in full in the Bow- manville Statesman. This is the first year for this new award- an extension of the previous Distinguished Sec't of the Year award to embrace embrace a larger group of possible possible participants. It was our pleasure and privilege to nave made the presentation to John and an honor we certainly relished. The many friends of Yel- verton's Wesley McMahon of Bethany (a former resident resident of neighbouring Lotus) will be sorry to learn that Wes is currently in Intensive Care in Peterborough Civic Hospital following a heart attack. He was taken in last Sunday and has shown some improvement in condition condition as of Wednesday and Thursday. All join in wishing Wes a rapid recovery to former former good health that he and Jeanne may enjoy a continued continued happy retirement with their musical hobbies. Mrs. Brian (Carol) Gray is scheduled to leave this week to fly to Edmonton Alta., to attend a week's Managers Convention or Seminar in that city in conjunction conjunction with her Tops and Trends-employment as local sales representative. Yelverton U.C.W. met on Thursday , January 7th for their first meeting of the New Year at the home of Isabel Isabel and Norman Wilson in Janetville village. The newly elected Executive were in charge as follows: Pres.- Brenda Malcolm, Vice Pres.- Laurie Robinson, Sect.- Eileen Genereux and Treasurer-Carol Treasurer-Carol Gray. The meeting meeting opened with the Ode and Linda Pfoh convened the Devotional consisting of a reading and other program items. 18 members joined the U.C.W. for the 1988 fiscal year. In the absence of the Treasurer, past Treasurer Corrie Malcolm provided the monthly and end of year Treasurer's report. Eileen Malcolm provided the Flower Flower report. Secretary Eileen Genereux read the minutes of previous meeting and Thank You notes were read. Doris Rowan, past Sect, provided provided the end of the year report report for 1987. Putting together together a new Cook Book was discussed. Meeting adjourned and was followed by a delicious lunch by Hostess. ..
