This is her first year as a member of our Journalist Club. Durham College Student Helps at Waverley by Chantal Axelson. A student by the name of ' Barb Wesselius helps two kindergarten classrooms on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. In the morning she helps .Mrs. tenWesteneind's class and in the afternoon she helps Miss Burtenshaw's class. She has been taking a course on Early Childhood Education at Durham College. College. The children will benefit benefit from her training. She says she really enjoys it here at Waverley. Follow Mr. I'm the Gingerbread Man by Kelly Browne Mrs. Ough's class was working on a unit about the gingerbread man last week. To start off, Mrs. Anyan, our librarian read them the story about the gingerbread man. The first week they learned about "My Frienas." Last week they followed the gingerbread gingerbread man to the office, where Mrs. Canfield and Mr. Reid told them about their jobs as a secretary and a principal. The next day they followed the gingerbread man to the custodian's office and Mr. Luchies told them about being a custodian. The day after that they went to the library and Mrs. Anyan told them about her job. On Thursday they found the gingerbread man in their own classroom, and Mrs. Ough and Mrs. Wilson (teacher assistant) told about their jobs. On Friday, the gingerbread man was in the library and the class watched a film and ' then made gingerbread cookies to finish the unit. I hope they had fun eating them! Way back... The students in Mrs. La- Chanse's grade six class have recently found out about different countries and their ancestors by making family treesVfor the Canadian Canadian Mosaic unit in Environmental Environmental Studies they had been working on. The students students were given three weeks to find out about their families through grandparents, grandparents, parents and family bibles. The results were spectacular, spectacular, dating back hundreds hundreds of years. Most students' students' families were European; some were North American Indian and others. Some neat ideas were, making an actual tree out of coat hangers and hanging the information from it, put- Vincent Massey Students Learn About Groundhogs When you woke up on February 2nd did you see your shadow? The groundhog didn't. In Mrs. Yellowlees' class they learned a bit about Groundhog Day and Mrs. Yellowlees read the class a story about it. The class is also busy making beautiful Valentine bags to put their cards in. Each bag has a name on it. Everyday they read each name on the bags so they know whose bag to put the Valentine cards in. Karen likes to do word collection, use the computer, play with lego but she doesn't like writing or glueing glueing things together. Kaitlin likes to read books, do math, writing and painting but they both like singing O ' Canada and saying the Lord's Prayer. Kaitlin doesn't like very long stories, playing with lego or pasting things together (because she doesn't like getting glue on her hands). Ms. Donafeld looks after after the Fish Club and meets with them every Tuesday at 3:50. The Fish Club members come on their own every week. The fish tank which they look after is in the bottom level of the Library. The members can clear away algae, algae, take out dead fish, feed the fish, and wash the tank. The Fish Club is going on a trip to Oshawa (Durham Aquarium Society) on Tuesday, Tuesday, February 9. They are going to see a film on fish and team about tropical fish. Ping Pong by Heather Watson Mr. Mills and Mrs. Snowden Snowden have just started a new club called Ping Pong. Any student in grades four, five or six will be able to join. Players will be divided into three sections (1) Beginners (2) Average (3) Experienced. This club will be held on Mondays and Fridays at 12:00 to 12:50. Each student must bring his lunch to attend attend the club. The club will run from February 2 until March 11. There will be a tournament after the March break. St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Catholic Church, Bowmanville, was the setting for the marriage marriage of Ellen Carol Graham, only daughter of Mr. ana Mrs. Merrill Graham, Orono and Jeffrey Mark Dillon, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Allan Dillon, Orono, on Saturday October 24,1987 at 2 p.m., with Father Wayne McCarthy officiating. The organist was Mrs. Pat Prout and the soloist, Ms. Janette De Sousa. Escorted down the aisle by her father, the bride wore a formal gown of slipper satin satin and guipeure lace, designed designed with a Victorian neckline neckline and leg-o-mutton sleeves. The fitted bodice was highlighted with seed pearls and the sleeves and full skirt with appliqucd lace medallions. The skirt fell softly into a cathedral train. A headband of pearls and small white silk roses held a silk illusion veil and she carried carried a cascade of yellow roses, roses, pale yellow orchids and royal bjue stephanotis accented accented with pearl sprays, ivy and white netting. The matron of honour was Mrs. Donna (Lowery) Huisman and the bridesmaids bridesmaids were Miss Pat Quantrill Quantrill and Mrs. Shelly (Smirle) Van Empel. They were gowned a like in formal royal royal blue tafetta gowns and carried bouquets similar to the bride's. The best man, was Paul Woodbeck and the ushers were Bob Dillon, brother of the groom and Steven Graham, Graham, brother of the bride. They wore black tuxedos with royal blue cummerbunds cummerbunds and bow ties with yellow yellow rose boutonnieres. The groom wore black tails, black cummerbund and bow tie and a boutonniere of two yellow roses. The reception was held at the Orono Arena Community Community Centre, where Jeff Graham, Graham, younger brother of the bride was the Master of Ceremonies. Ceremonies.
