L.N.H.L. Tournament on January 22/23 St. Marys took part in the L.N.H.L. tournament tournament and demonstrated the style of hockey that earned them their invitation in the first place as Bowmanville held their own against "A" rated clubs. Oshawa Bruins - In typical typical Toro style, the boys accomplished accomplished the unexpected. unexpected. They lost against the one club they expected to beat and won against a more powerful club. Having beaten the Bruins in the past the road to the "A" championship seemed destined destined as the Toros lined up to take the opening face-off of the tournament. However, by the mid mark of the second period, Bowmanville Bowmanville was in the cellar 0-3 with a long journey back. A few minutes laterTim Powers (Jeff Reynolds, Blaine Sleep) repealed the lesson. But the old Toro nemesis returned - the penalty penalty box blues - and Toros were back on the defensive. Despite another reminder by Jeff Reynolds (Tim Powers, Powers, Steve Cus) the Scarborough Scarborough offensive turned the tide and ended the game in a 3-3 tie setting up a breathtaking, nerve-wracking nerve-wracking shoot-out. With bobbing heads, fans struggled to watch the simultaneous action as Ian Cooper turned away the Scarborough attack while Jeff Reynolds coolly dropped dropped one behind the disappointed disappointed Scarborough goalie to end their hopes. Congratulations Congratulations to Jeff Reynolds who earned the M.V.P. award, to Ian Cooper who closed the gates and to the whole team for the entertaining entertaining hockey.
