The Auxiliary Auxiliary recently purchased six "Patient Mates" tables for the medical rehabilitation rehabilitation wing of Memorial Hospital. The tables (which offer drawer and vanity space, as well as a fold out extension table area) will be used by patients in the rehabilitation wing. While the Memorial Auxiliary is a front-runner when it comes to helping out with needed equipment, there are many areas that could be helped by the town's service groups and organizations, according to hospital personnel. The first hurdle that people are faced with when starting an exercise program program is breaking out of the inactivity habit. Conveniences Conveniences have made it easy for our lifestyles to be very inactive. inactive. Research has shown that the first eight weeks of an exercise program are critical. This is when our habit of inactivity exerts its strongest hold. It is often helpful to decide why you want to get fit and remember remember it throughout this time. Once you've worked physical activity into your lifestyle, reward yourself for your accomplishments. Treat yourself to something special to reinforce your good habits. Self-consciousness may be the number one deterrent deterrent to keeping on an exercise exercise program. Minor aches and pains are usually signs that underused underused muscles and joints are finally being used. If you have more than a small amount of stiffness, your body is trying to tell you to take it easier next time. The old saying: "no pain, no gain" should not be a part of your fitness program. A fitness appraisal can be a very helpful starting point for those taking up a fitness program. The appraisal will give an estimate of your overall physical fitness as well as providing an exercise exercise prescription that matches your personal ac-. tivity preferences. Many fitness fitness centres, Y.M.C.A.'s, Y.W.C.A.'s and recreation departments offer fitness appraisals. When inquiring about this type of program, check to make sure that the person administering the appraisal is either a Registered Registered or Certified Fitness Appraiser from the Canadian Canadian Association of Sport Sciences. "Tweedsmuir History Books" have been an important important on-going project of Federated Women's Institutes Institutes of Ontario. These books are comprehensive, factual collections of historical historical data of com- munitities across Ontario. During Lord Tweedsmuir's term as Governor Governor General of Canada, Lady Tweedsmuir took great interest in the Women's Institute. She stressed the need for preserving preserving the history of our Canadian people, places, customs and activities. Federated Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario decided to act upon her suggestion and a "Tweedsmuir History Book" became the project of each Women's Institute Branch within Ontario. Today, 1100 branches each have a Tweedsmuir History Book and many branches have two or three volumes. Main topics covered in these books are -- Branch Women's Institute and its contribution to the welfare and development of the community; general community community history; individual families and homes; schools and education; churches and their organizations; organizations; industries past and present; libraries; municipal municipal government; recreation; recreation; and war records. The Curators are being very progressive and are aware of how much these community history books mean and are being used in Ontario. They are conducting conducting workshops on Recording Recording Your Family History; Preservation of Photographs; Photographs; and Oral History Recording. The Books are being copied, laminated and microfilmed. The Curators frequently submit articles to magazines and papers; work with Historical Historical Societies; and are guest speakers at other organizations. organizations. Historical researchers researchers often use these Books as a source of reference.
