Goodyear Eagles Eliminate Cobourg by Kevin Anyan The Bowmanville Goodyear Goodyear Eagles demonstrated their superior skill as they eliminated the Cobourg Cougars Cougars in four straight games in the Vern McGregor Division Division semi-final Jr. C. OHA play-offs. Bowmanville was favoured and predicted to defeat the Cougars in this best of seven series in four games. After the game Monday night, the champagne flowed almost as easily as the goals did during the play-offs. Under the scoring leadership of Brian Heard, Chris Dreossi and Brad Cruess, the Eagles outscored the Cougars 41 to 12 during this series. It has to be difficult difficult to play as a team when the offence is so powerful; yet, when the pressure was on, the team fared well. John Cleiff, not only played as a team member, he also added to the scoring punch. Scott Webster ana Dave Smith each contributed to the games with solid performances performances in goal. The Vern McGregor Division Division Finals should provide lots of excitement. Ajax and Wellington each have an axe GO Service Expands Representatives from GO Transit will be called to an upcoming Newcastle general general purpose and administration administration meeting to discuss proposed proposed changes to the service. Presently, the GO bus service service extends from Bowmanville Bowmanville to the Oshawa downtown downtown bus station and operates every 60 minutes. Plans call for the 60 minute minute service to be reduced to 40 minutes during peak periods, periods, with an extension to the Whitby GO bus and rail station. station. Further service is to include include a direct 40 minute route between Bowmanville and the Whitby station. The changes are a result of the impending opening of the Whitby station. The express service will follow Liberty Street South to Baseline Road, west on Baseline Road to Waverley Road, and along Waverley Road to westbound Highway Highway 401 to the Whitby Station. Station. Newcastle councillors asked town staff to invite GO representatives to a future future meeting. The request was made at the administration administration committee meeting on Monday, March 7. to grind with the Eagles and should take the senes to 6 games. Short Notes Bowmanville has to be careful when they lose. When Bowmanville lost to Cobourg in the round robin series, Trenton cried foul and the coach made it known through the press. This just proves the birdmen are expected to win and the pressure on Eagles is always there, even from the opponents. opponents. Jeff Dawson and ex- Eagle Brad Clemens provided provided the colour commentary last Thursday on Radio Station Station CHUG. They both did a supër job and as of print time they have not settled on a contract with Hockey Night in Canada. With the Wellington-Ajax series still to be decided (Wellington 3 - Ajax 1) it is still undecided if or who will play Bowmanville next Sunday. Sunday. Keep your ears open as the Eagle Caravan will be on the streets of our city, broad casting the game plan for Sunday. Editor's Note: We received word early Wednesday morning that Wellington won over Ajax 11-4 to end the series. The first four games in Bowmanville's series will run as follows: Sunday, March 13 at 7:30 in Bowmanville. Friday, March 18 at 8:00 in Wellington. Sunday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Bowmanville Tuesday, March 22 at 8:00 in Wellington. eelvan REALTY LTD. Prospective Purchasers look to Edvan Realty because of our proven record of success.
