It is just one of many events the team has planned for its fund raising drive. The Toros are heading to Europe in December 1988 and are really starting to get the fund raising drive un der way. Lions Club Chefs Feed Blind Skiers at Kirby Hills Four members of Bowmanville Lions Club continued a longtime tradition on Saturday when they cooked hamburgs on the outdoor barbecue at Oshawa Ski Club and fed about 40 blind skiers and their associates. Girls Win Championship at Havelock At the Havelock Tournament on Saturday February 27th, the Bowmanville Bowmanville Bell Toro Junior Girls met Bewdley in the first game of the day. Our first goal was scored by Sarah Ewles assisted by Laura Abrams. On a super pass from Cheryl-Ann Cole, Laura Abrams shot another one in, giving the Toro's a 2-0 lead. However, by the end of the second period, Bewdley had us 3-2. Our Toro Girls weren't going to be outdone scoring four unanswered goals in the third period to give them a well deserved victory of 6-3. This was a very tense game as both teams played exceptionally well, keeping the game scoreless until the third period when Keene man aged to score one. Well, the pressure was on and our Bell girls gave it their best. With one minute and 10 seconds left in the game, Laura Abrams came through, unassisted to give the Bell girls a 1-1 tie, and a place in the 'A' finals. In the Championship game, the Bell Toro Jr. Girls met Keene once again. This proved to be one more well played game. Laura Abrams Abrams opened the scoring assisted assisted by Lisa Morrison. When Keene scored to tie it up, it was touch and go for a while. Then Kim Duczmalewski came through for the Bell Girls and scored the winninggoal assisted by Cheryl-Ann Cole. This gave our Bell Toro Girls a 2-1 victory as well as "A-Champs." Con- gratulatons girls! Most valuable player trophies went to: Laura Abrams, Abrams, Lisa Cobbledick, and Arigie Taylor. They were fun. Activity 2 was in Mrs. Falls' room. We made Pipecleanosaurus there. Activity Activity 3 was in the library. We played Colour the Dragon. Dragon. Match the Dinosaur and one other dinosaur program on the computers. Activity 4 was in the staff room. We made Alligator Soup but we pretended it was Dinosaur Soup and that the alligators were allosauruses. We made bean dinosaurs out of beans, peas, macaroni and noodles. The guest speaker was Grace Orlob, a Brooklin resident who describes herself herself as a herb "enthusiast". Her chat covered some of' the origins of herbs, their use and cultivation. It concluded concluded with an invitation to sample some herb tea made from the guest speaker's own recipe. Coffee chats take place each Thursday afternoon, afternoon, from two p.m. to 2:45 p.m. ep< On Monday, February 29th, three students from The Pines participated in a beneficial progam called 'Quest For Knowledge'. The experience that the three students students encountered was held in Cobourg and was taped to later be played on the Cobourg Cobourg Cable network. We participated against a Cobourg Cobourg School, called C. R. Gummow. When we first arrived arrived at the television station we were informed of the rules, question and the four different rounds and categories categories in which we would play. Then we were seated on a bench and our buzzers were handed to us. The pressures lay heavily on all of our shoulders. We looked to Mr. Farrington to lend us the encouragement encouragement we needed. After After all, we had reached the big time T.V. Well, after the first round we led 6-5, then after that I don't know what happened. I swear the other team's fingers were attached to those buzzers. McDonalds. by Brendenn Bates A Little Bit Of Everything It has been a very busy week for the teachers and students from The Pines Senior Public School. Sherry Bassin, the manager of the Oshawa General came to the school and talked to the students students about representing our country on an international basis. On February 23, the Ministry of Education chose certain students to take a math and science test. The students had to be born in 1974 and be 13 years old. The countries which are taking taking part in the test are Great Britain, Ireland, Spain, United United States and the provinces of British Columbia, New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario. Ontario. It was a special P.D. day for the teaches because all of them went to Cobourg. In the morning there were seminars seminars and in the afternoon there was a key-note speaker. speaker. The students have just started the third and last term. Teachers are busily getting ready for the report cards for the DREADED day, Thursday, March 10. That is the day that they are sent out! To compete in the unit we all took part in the Olympic Spectacular at the Orono Arena. It was Thursday, February February the 25th. Kids were competing competing in the 15th Olympic games, hoping to grasp a gold medal. They were hungry, desperate desperate and giving all they had just for the slightest chance to win a medal for their country. Each class chose to represent an actual country that was participating participating in Calgary. Kids were cheering as their country's hope streaked for perfection. Here are the top three countries' medal count. 1. West Germany with 3 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze (8A), One sunny morning I heard a huge thump, thump! I thought that the end of the world was coming! I looked out of my window and there was a pink tyrannasaurus rex. I asked him what he was doing here. He said he was looking for his glasses. I told him that they were on the top of his head. He said, "Well, so they are! Thank you!" I told all of my friends that I talked to a pink tyrannosaurus tyrannosaurus rex but none of them believed me. Misuse of smoking material was listed as the cause of the fire which resulted in damages estimated at $27,000 to a bedroom bedroom located over the garage.
