Students at the school managed to raise $1113.50, in pennies for two local organizations. organizations. My mom still had half of her life left to live. My dad was with her when she left us and he hasn't been the same since. I don't think he will' ever recover. recover. It was just last night when my mother died. 6:05 p.m., Doctor Williams called while Dad and I.were eating dinner. He said we'd better come to the hospital, my stopped breathing and her heartbeat was fading fading fast. Her picture is still sitting where she left it, on top of the television. It was taken before she got sick, before when everything was good. I really wish everything was good again. Gladys and June assisted Mr. Leo McKinnall to bring in his pictures - He and his wife Helen live in the new home just east of the creek on the 8th - 3 houses West of Graham's garage. Mr. McKinnall gave an interesting interesting talk on nis hobby, Water- color painting. He started out by copying other artists' drawings but has put that far behind and now does his own masterpieces right from the word ' Go". His ideas come from calendars, unique paintings and photos. He has painted several of buildings in Tyrone. Mr. McKinnall told us of how he does flooding his pictures, pictures, and Straight washings, his textured paints and tne type of brushes. He has done some acrylic pictures but NO oils. He spoke of the paper type he uses and also on more expensive paper and paints. Mr. McKinnall has had twenty-six years in the service service and has had misfortune with some heart problems - but leads a very active life. He is a member of the Art Association in Oshawa and is one of the "Horseless Carriage" Carriage" Oshawa Barbershop Quartet - with the wives known as you guessed it - The Backseat Drivers - singers singers or not. Many parents and spectators watched along with us. Many people asked questions. questions. Tammy Beers asked if it could fly in the rain. The question was answered by Ray the Balloon pilot. "If it is raining we would take the balloon down". Many people asked if they could go in the balloon. But the balloon owner owner said he didn't have the proper insurance. The] hot air balloon is full! Katie Johnson and Jacqueline Jacqueline Chamberlain really admired it. Katie thought if she had a hot air ballon it would be .red and have a ' clear;basket so she could see out when she sits down. In the future] she would really like to go qp on one. They both liked it because of its colours colours and just liked watching the balloon float back and forth and fly high in the air! by Samantha McDonald What I Learned About Hot Air Balloons The hot air balloon that came to our school was 80 feet high and 60 feet wide. The burner runs on propane. You must ihave a pilot's licence licence to fly a hot air balloon. The balloon can carry four adults. The weight with four adults is approximately 1600 lbs. The propane is in the tanks in thé basket and there is a fire extinguisher. Crime Stoppers and the Durham Regional Police are asking for the public's help in solving a fire which occurred occurred at the V-Plus Gas Station, Station, 1400 King Street East at the Oshawa/Bowmanville Townline. On February 28th at about 7:30 p.m. three youths were seen to run from the rear of this gas station. A short time later a fire Was noticed at the rear door. The owner managed to put the fire out and it was discovered discovered that someone had set fire to pieces of cardboard and put them against and under this rear door.
