It was hoped that those feelings still existed today. He received assurances from several several councillors that the town was indeed indeed interested in having the company company remain. However, the possibility arose that maybe the company might have to relocate relocate from its present location. While Mr. McCarthy didn't deny that was a possibility in the phone interview, interview, he made it clear that any delays delays in the company's rezoning application application will affect the costs and, inadvertently, the plans for clean up. Monday's meeting also saw several several local residents speak to councillors about the plant. West Beach Road homeowners, Gordon and June White, made a presentation presentation to Newcastle councillors on behalf of 16 lakefront area residents. Mr. White expressed a list of concerns concerns over the plant which included: pollution of local marsh lands; the plant's physical appearance; and long-term plans for the lakefront. In his presentation, Mr. White showed many photographs of the area and the plant. One concern of the area residents is the condition of the roads. "The roads were never constructed for heavy vehicles," claimed Mr. White. He told of numerous pot holes and an uneven railroad crossing in the area. Another area resident, Greg Shea, claimed that trucks turning into the plant sometimes held up traffic for several minutes at a time. He further questioned the safety of area citizens and their children. "It is a very busy area now," said Mr. Shea. He also wondered if anythin could be done to light the area aroun the plant and to install sidewalks. When Mr. Nordstrum began his presentation, he outlined several projects projects that will be involved in the area clean up. Included in the proposed plans are: the paving of West Beach Rd, from Simpson Ave to the plant's second driveway; the paving of the company's company's three driveways; installation of several light standards on the property; property; and the donation of land to improve improve the Simpson Ave and West Beach Road intersection.
