Hall on Monday, May 9th at 8 p.m. with several 4H Girls, Leaders and Mothers as our special guests. Our new President Mrs. H. Bradley welcomed everyone everyone and read a poem entitled, entitled, "What is a Mother"? The singing of the Ode and repeating of the Lord's Prayer followed. Minutes of Annual Meeting Meeting and Executive meeting were read and approved. Treasurer's report given. An invitation to visit Blackstock on June 1st was accepted and several agreed to go. This is a presentation by Shirley Turner on the Orient. Orient. An invitation to visit Soli- na on November 9th was accepted accepted and this will be International International Night with a speaker on "Aids." Mrs. Hi Bradley and Mrs. W. Brown will attend Soli- na's 85th Anniversary on May 11th at 6:30 p.m. It was agreed that we give $50 to M.G. for use of the Hall for our District Annual Annual on May 4th. Collection and Pennies for Friendship was taken. Mrs. W. Polak Convenor for Cultural Activities was in charge of the following program. program. The Motto - "Be the best of whatever you are" was commented on by Mrs. A. Hall. Mrs. Hall read a poem from our W. I. "Home & Country" magazine on our Motto. Mrs. Polak introduced Mrs. H. Ashton of Bowmanville Bowmanville who gave a demonstra-' tion and talk on 'apple dolls'. She said 'apple dolls' originated originated about 500 years ago and were made by the Seneca Seneca Indians and were called 'wish dolls'. "Delicious" apples apples are used for making the apple doll heads and are- stuffed with apple keeper and hung to dry for about 6 weeks. Soft stuffed bodiesi are then made for the heads and then the dolls are dressed in lovely printed clothes. Mrs; Ashton had several samples of these dolls and answered several questions of the ladies. Mrs. Polak moved a vote of thanks to Mrs. Ashton and presented her with a small gift. The 4H Girls from two earlier clubs had some of their books on display and posters of the fruit and vegetable vegetable club and blouses from the sewing club. Past leaders were Marj Burton, Marg Quinney, Marg Down and Heather Morton. The leaders of the present club are Karen Witty and Dorene Kelsey. Mrs. Witty, Mrs. Quinney and Mrs. Morton Morton spoke on the courses for the 4H Club. Mrs. S. Found presented each of the leaders with a gift on behalf of our W.I. Mrs. H. Bradley closed the meeting with the repeating repeating of the Collect in unison. Our W. I. ladies had a chance to mingle with the girls and leaders and see 'their displays and books. Lunch of sandwiches, pickles and relishes, juice, tea and coffee were served by Mrs. Polak and her group during the social hour. Next meeting on June 13th will be a visit to Crozier Bird Farm in Orono. Ladies will meet at the church to go to the farm at 7p.m. P.R.O. Win Mown. Crime Stoppers Crime Stoppers and the Durham Regional Police are asking for the Public's help in solving a number of Break and Enters in the Oshawa and Bowmanville areas. During the night of April 11th - 12th someone entered the Pioneer Gas Stations at 850 King Street West Oshawa and also at 114 Liberty Liberty Street South in Bowmanville. Bowmanville. The safes were opened and cash taken. Again, during the night of April 21st - 22nd, the same two gas stations were entered entered and again' cash stolen from the safes.THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF FORCIBLE FORCIBLE ENTRY to the premises premises or the safes on either occasion. The Hampton Ladies' Service Club held its first reunion since the group's inception inception 44 years ago, at the Hampton United Church on Wednesday, May 11. Ladies Ladies gathered from all over the country, one even coming from England to attend the reunion. Absent Absent from photograph was Emma Witticomb. Senior Citizens Hold Meeting At Lions Centre The Bowmanville Senior Citizens met at the Lions Centre May 10th. Meeting opened by singing "O Canada" Canada" with Mrs. MT James at the piano. President Mrs. V. Downey Downey welcomed the. new members and conducted the business meeting. An enjoyable game of cards was played and the winners were Lily Bain, Kucha Kucha Aldred and Lilia Luff- man. A delicious lunch was served convened by Mrs. W. Welsh.
