Students travelled to the 1 University of Western Ontario Ontario in London for the Ontario Championships. A new team is forming already for next year, when the school hopes to take the championship. One successful student, Scott Veals, was one of 100 nominees chosen of a possible possible 1,400 students eligible for a Josten's Leader Scholarship. Scholarship. Scott served as Prime Minister of the Student's Council, and still managed to maintain a high academic average. He acted as a leader leader of the Redman Baseball Team. Bowmanville's athletic teams have traditionally done a good job of representing representing the community. This year has seen the rebirth of the Track and Field Team. Students at BHS made themselves noticed in and around the community with their CO-OP program. Ideally, this cuts down on hiring out-of-town employees employees and saves business people people time in training. On a more theatrical note, the BHS Drama Club, a group of 80 students and three directors, put together several productions this year, one of which was the successful Music Man of last fall. The spring selection was Done to Death, a mystery- comedy where five mystery writers are hired to write for a television series. But when a real murder takes place, the writers must try to figure out 'who dunnit'. Public speaking is no problem for Gail Seto and Jonathan Goad, both students at Bowmanville High School. The speakers took first place honors at the Bowmanville Bowmanville Lions Club Effective Speaking Contest. They repeated the first place victories at the regional level of competition. At the district where the competition included speakers from Ontario, Quebec and Labrador, Gail placed second and Jonathan was fourth. The group has spent the last year involved in various activities including a car wash on the week-end and a display at the Kinsmen Home Show earlier this year. The group works towards promoting aware ness of the dangers of alcohol and motor vehicles. The drama group is looking for an interesting 1988-89 school year production. Drama isn't the school's only entertainment. Thirty- six students of the Bowmanville Bowmanville High School Band recently recently completed a stint in New Orleans where they picked up a bronze award in the music competition held May 14. The students enjoyed the jazz music while in New Orleans, Orleans, accompanied by their six chaperones, and found their touring of Bourbon Street, the cruise boat Na- chez, a San Franciso Plantation Plantation House and the Mississippi Mississippi River to be quite exciting. The Senior Band members members are thankful to Mr. Parker and Miss Windly for organizing the trip.
