Mademoiselle Mademoiselle Dube even frequently frequently slips into a foreign language. Elle a contole de ses petits moucmoucs. Nous sommes pendus! Bizarre, n'est-ce pas? And is it really a coincidence that Mr. King has recently risen to power, with Mr Knight at his side, at our school on Queen Street? I think not! What I found particularly devious and conniving has been the clever techmaues they've used to achieve tneir purposes. Mr. MacArthur, the Pied Piper of BSPS, can be held responsible for brainwashing brainwashing hundreds of students. students. You've seen tonight how he can control them with a flick of his baton. Can you imagine how much parents parents would be willing to pay for information about now lie does it? And it doesn't stop there. Mr. Putnam and Ms. White have achieved similar control using a simple whistle as their instrument of manipulation. What is especially especially deceptive is that ihey have convinced us that we've been having fun all this time. But the cleverest plan of all was the trip to Camp Tawingo. Who would have believed that there could have been an ulterior motive for a few days in the country? country? But we all know that the first rule of brainwashing is to exhaust the subject. They were all in on it. Mr. Weller guarded the secret documents. Students were kept away from those so- called "staff meetings." .When leaders such as Mr. Leith and Miss Summers! des were offered legitimate positions positions and left the school, 007 Maclvor was more than ready to take over operations. operations. Some teachers' conscience conscience did get the better of them though. Mr. Martin has been trying to warn us for two years but we didn't pay attention, did we class? So here's the scoop. I finally finally figured it out! While we've been playing basketball, basketball, sewing stuffed animals, making tin boxes, singing, playing music, folk dancing, and dressing up for spirit days, the staff has been making making sure the we've LEARNED something each and every day. Of course, some students had greater powers of resistance than others. But no one was left unharmed. The teachers (a plural noun actng as subject of the sentence) have been teaching (the present participle participle of the verb). Omigosh, I've been taken in too! ' But just a minute. Let's examine examine the outcome of their undercover operations. In just two short years these amazing pedagogues have turned a bunch of whimpering, whimpering, snivelling-nosed kids (yes, that was us) into WOMEN and MEN ready to conquer the world, or at least high school. Maybe getting our dirty little minds brainwashed brainwashed wasn't such a bad idea after all. Maybe it would even be appropriate to say thank you. In fact, I think I'll do just that. On behalf of the 1988 graduating class, THANK YOU staff of Bow- manville Senior Public School Oh and one final thought, Mr. King asked me if I could sum up BSPS in just one word. Sure I can -- BzzPzz! Bowmanville Senior Public School Principal Dan Mclvor congratulates Lisa Rundle, this year's valedictorian. It's a plot! It's all a great big plot! I have to tell someone. someone. The students deserve to know. ii- ■ (Suddenly noticing audience): audience): Oh, hi! I'm glad you're here. There's something very important I have to tell you. I've discovered the dreaded secret of BSPS. But I suppose I should start at the beginning. It all began back in the fall of 1986. It must have been a piece of cakè for the teachers, teachers, secretly known as Gold- er's Green Beret's, to carry out their devious two-year plan. Yes, we poor unsuspecting unsuspecting creatures were tricked. Right from the very first day of school, they've been BRAINWASHING us. As we were led through the motions of meeting our new teachers, memorizing odd new locker combinations and class schedules, none of us had a clue what was actually actually going on. Some of the staff hid their, oh let's call it ESPIONAGE, ESPIONAGE, better than others, but the signs were there if we'd been smart enough to notice them. For example, what about Mr. Veldhuis' shifty eyes, and Mr. Lusito's mysterious mysterious absences? And I can't believe we were so innocent that we didn't figure out that names like Balakofsky, Iozzi, Greengrass, and Smith were really aliases. We certainly should have realized that no one would tell jokes as bad as Mr.Harris's unless there was Beware! It's Coming! pE pniiESjj jtefc.
