Part of the resolution may include the purchase of the Silver Street lot by the Town of Newcastle from its present owners. A report from the clerk's department at the Monday, July 4i general purpose and administration meeting, stated stated that the Town's intention had always been to buy the Silver Steet lot. The report, which was received ana approved approved by councillors, recommended recommended that the purchase purchase be undertaken in 1989. In a report that was before before councillors in May, there was a recommendation recommendation to remove the parking meters from the Silver Street lot in order to convert it to employee parking. While the BIA have agreed that the Town can use the lot for the six-month period, they asked that the meters be left in the lot to allow downtown shoppers shoppers access to the facility. On Monday approval was given to leave the meters meters in place. According to the report, "allowing a' mix of public and staff parking in the Silver Silver Street lot is an acceptable compromise solution." It has also been suggested that, if additional spaces are needed for parking, the Bowmanville Arena site could be used. Discussions with town staff indicate that the parking lot on the east side of the Fire Building and part of the westerly parking lot should also be used by town employees.
