( 1 14 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, July 13,1988 News from Elizabethville By Mrs. Thickson Church services were held at Mr. and Mrs. Mac. Frew's farm. An excellent crowd attended the service in the beautiful treed yard at the back of the house. As speakers we had three ladies from the Northern Pastoral Region of Quinte North; Jean Foster, Lake St. Peter; Pat Thornette, Minden; Beta Krier, Bancroft. They told of the church groups formed in small villages and dependent on lay men and visiting pastors, pastors, building up attendance until several places have regular regular hired ministers by working together to help one another. Others taking part were Canton choir, Mr. Bickle with organ, Mr. J. Peacock and others. Canton was responsible responsible for taking up the offering and for the lunch. Sunday services, July 10th, were held in the Cathedral in the Pines in Welcome with the men's club responsible for the service. On Thursday the seniors from the Golden Age club went to Cullen Gardens in Whitby. Everyone enjoyed the tnp. We explored the new Garden Gate Restaurant Restaurant outside the main gate. A really lovely spot. We toured the miniature village, had lunch at the Village restaurant, restaurant, and later took in the afternoon afternoon live show in the Valley Valley theatre. Mrs. E. Fowler, Nancy Sevenhuysen and Cheyenna called on Thicksons a day last week. The Fowler clan gathered on Saturday and were able to completely repair the roof rafters, etc. on our house. They also managed to get the huge limb cut up and taken taken to the orchard so today, we are trying to clean up the garbage, saw dust, and broken broken boards and shingles. The Hodgins have their chimney put back on their house as was and the mess cleaned up. Mrs. Irene Beatty had little Andrew Gunby, Toronto, Toronto, all week as his mother was attending a conference in regard to her work. She came here for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Trew had Joan and family; Helen and family; Cindy and Jackie Jackie for tea Sunday. The men folk all stayed at the lot where Mr. and Mrs. Deremo are building a new house and the women took their supper to them. Suzanne Westheuser helped at Thickson's at the bee Saturday and Beryl and friend called on Sunday evening. Darlene Staats and Linda spent a couple of days with Thicksons this week. Mrs. Lewko had daughter Ann and Nick Long for the July 1st holiday. They went home in time for the 4th in Rochester. Farmers are busy at the haying and most families are ' spending the weekends resting. resting.
