THE SCHOOL BELLS WILL SOON BE RINGING -- With the first days of school approaching faster faster than most would care to admit, the big question question of shopping for new clothes will soon have to be answered. The Levi Strauss & Co (Canada) (Canada) Inc. vice-president of marketing, Gordon Shank, claims that this fall will see a "return to basics with a number of new finishes and looks rather than a single new finish or style." According to Levi's, the trend towards acid wash jeans has peaked. The hot new look will be the basic five-pocket jean made from a heavier, very colored denim. The color palette for fall, claims a product spokesperson, will be headed by navy with a strong support of forest green and toabcco brown. Black and natural will be key colors as well. Shirts will headline in green, red, royal, yellow, plum, tan and spruce. Approximately one-third of all jeans sold in Canada are sold during the back-to- school period. IT'S GOING TO COST MORE TO GET CRACKIN' CRACKIN' -- The price of eggs in August in all provinces will increase, says the Canadian Egg Marketing Agency (CEMA). Prices paid to farmers in Manitoba and Nova Scotia will rise by five cents per dozen, while prices in all other provinces will increase by six cents a dozen. The price increase is due to higher feed costs as a result of the severe drought in most regions of the country. MORE CLARKE MUSEUM NEWS -- The museum's latest exhibit, "Getting It Down On Paper" opened this month. It deals with (of all things!) newspapers and newspapermen (what, no women?) in the area. It is a hands on exhibit and visitors will be encouraged to try cutting lead for a typesetter, setting lead type, and creating their own traditional printer's hat from newsprint. The exhibit runs from August 5 to September 30. VOTING TIME -- The Durham Federal Liberal Liberal Association will be holding their nomination nomination meeting for the upcoming election (yet to be announced) on August 11,1988. The setting is Port Perry High School at 7:30 p.m. and the race is really heating up as the time for voting draws near. The two candiates, Ivan Grose of Courtice and Doug Moffat of the Clarke area, are both well known and have the experience to handle the job in Ottawa. No one is predicting predicting the outcome and it won't be known until some 620 party members (if everyone turns out) mark their ballots later in the evening. B.H.S.
