Obituary Verna Phare A longtime resident of this . area, Verna Phare died at Oshawa General Hospital on Sunday, August 14th, 1988, after a brief illness. She was 92 years of age. 1 Mrs. Phare was the ' daughter of the late William ^and Maria Jewell and she was born in Clarke Township Township and received her education education at Shaw's Public School and Bowmanvill^ High School. Both her husbands, Frederick Wight and Lome Phare predeceasedher. In her younger years, Mrs. Phare was an active member in United Church organizations in the several places where she lived, including including Bowmanville, Co- bourg, Newcastle, Tyrone and Oshawa, Recently, her residence has been in Sunny- crest Nursing Home in Whitby. Whitby. She is survived by one daughter, Dorothy (Mrs. Don Allman), two sisters, Rena Snowden and Mabel Jewell, a stepson, grandson, and great grand-daughter. On Saturday, Aug. 20, David, Regenia, Avril & Kyle Walker of Scugog Point were guests aboard the Lake Ranger, a charter fishing boat owned and operated by Regenia's brother, Martin Hill of Whitby. Under clear blue sunny sunny skies they left Whitby Harbour, Harbour, heading for the sparkling water of Lake Ontario..not knowing knowing the excitement that lay ahead! About a mile off shore, Martin set up his electronic down riggers and 4 fishing rods. Trolling Trolling back and forth they sat, talked, talked, and soaked up the lovely summer summer sun. Then it happened..one rod popped up and they had their first fish. David held the rod reeling reeling it in..after about 20 minutes of play, Martin netted the 10 lb. rainbow. rainbow. What excitement! ! A little while later they had another hit and Regenia tried her hand at reeling it in, but, unfortunately, this one got away. Before they knew it, it was time to come in. Afterward, they all returned to Regenia's parents home, for a delicious dinner, and lots of exciting talk! One of the more interesting provincial committees meeting this summer is looking into the question of Sunday shopping. The closest local hearing will take place in Peterborough August 24 to August 25. We seem to recall that the Town of Newcastle hasn't been using waste oil for dust control for several years now.
