Yelverton's 126th Anniversary Anniversary of our Yelverton United Church, with original building intact, was well attended attended with almost a full capacity capacity crowd present to hear Padre Clifford Waite of the Manilla-Oakwood Charge as guest speaker.'-Padre Waite proved to be an excellent choice combining as he did enthusiasm, exuberance and humour delivered with a tremendous tremendous gusto that made the rafters ring figuratively speaking. It was certainly refreshing refreshing to hear a speaker of such calibre deliver such a challenging address. One quote we really enjoyed was -"some folks are so heavenly minded that they are of no earthly use"! Special music was provided provided by the Barley family of Port Perry - 2 vocal numbers, numbers, - a duet and a solo by Ralph and Eleanor Barley accompanied by their daughter Lisa on the piano. The Robinson family are leaving our community on September 30 to move to the Whitby area and the new owner, a lady, is scheduled to move in, in Octoboer. The first corn has been combined and many acres of seed wheat have been sowed. Mr. Dwayne Glasbergen and his mother Marlene Glasbergen motored to Kitchener area - Wellesley Ontario where they exhibited exhibited their rabbits and attended the end of season banquet and presentations for the year, June 1987-June 1988. At the Wellesley Rabbit Show Dwayne rec'd the 2nd highest trophy for Youth as well as 7-1 st place and 3 2nd place ribbons. At the Banquet, Dwayne rec'd the O.C.R.C. Sweep- stake trophy for Highest Points for a youth Class with 1583 points and the O.C.R.C. Sweepstake Trophy for top honours for Rex open to all breeders. He was also 100 ints short of receiving top onour in the Mini-Lap Class. Dwayne was also interviewed interviewed by C.T.V. Television Television Station for Kitchener- Waterloo. Last year he won 15 trophies and 3 wall plaques plus 26 rosettes and hundreds of ribbons. Miss Candy Malcolm left this week to visit several countries in Europe in conjunction conjunction with her employment employment with Jonik tours in Toronto. Toronto. Mr. Todd Malcolm is currently currently trying out with the Lindsay Mu skie hockey team and has played in two exhibition games to date. Bowman ville W.I. Meeting opened with the members singing O Canada and Institute Ode; the pianist was Mrs. Bell. Minutes of last meeting were read by Secretary Treasurer Mrs. C. W. Downey. Downey. Obituary Muriel Bridgett The death of Muriel Bridgett Bridgett occurred on Friday, September 9, 1988 at Hillsdale Hillsdale Manor, Oshawa, in her 76th year, following a month's illness. Daughter of the late Wesley Wesley Thompson and Alice Thompson, she was born at Salem, Darlington Twsp, and educated at Haydon. Married January 14,1933, to Walter E. Bridgett, she had resided in Bowmanville 42 rears, previously residing in *aydon. Surviving are her daughter daughter Pauline (Mrs. Gordon Taylor) Enfield, two sons Daniel E. Bowmanville, and Lanny, Kendal, seven grandchildren, grandchildren, five great grandchildren, grandchildren, two sisters Lorn a (Mrs. H. Jahnke) B.C., Audrey Audrey (Mrs. Frank Osmond) Bowmanville, three brothers Earl, Bowmanville, Glen, Carleton Place, and Roland, Hampton. She was predeceased predeceased by brothers Roy, Lloyd (twin) and Donald. Funeral services were held on Monday at the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, Bowmanville with the Reverend Frank Lockhart Lockhart officiating. The organist was Mrs. Lloyd Ayre. Pallbearers were Ricky, Dale, Bob and Gary Taylor, grandsons, Taullie Thompson Thompson and Glen Burgess. Many donations were made to various various charities in her memory. Interment Bowmanville Cemetery. £
