Dear Editor: RE: CHANGE OF TOWN NAME - NOW IS THE TIME No rational reasons have ever been given to justify this lapse in mental activity in selecting the name of TOWN OF NEWCASTLE. Nor was any form of "public input" suggested or requested. requested. This change is long overdue overdue and it shouldn't have happened in the first place. We note that no one has come forward to seek ac- claim for the stroke of genius involved. We are advocating that the name "Town of Newcastle" Newcastle" be changed to "Town of Darlington": 1. On a list of 20,000 place names world wide, we find only one Darlington and it is in England. (No chance of confusion there) 2. This would tie in nicely with thé Darlington Generating Generating Station which, more and more, is becoming known world wide. It would give the town a sense of identity and location. When asked where we are from, we could just mention the generating station instead of having to explain that we are "just east of Oshawa" as is often the case now. 3. It has been said that it would take $10,000 to change the name. Can't think of a better way to spend it. Much to be preferred over some of the suggested projects projects we have heard about. 4. This would allow each urban area to maintain its own individual identity within the Town of Darlington. Darlington. (Less confusion in trying to describe where we are in legal document - no need to say: "in the Town of Newcastle Newcastle formerly the Town of Bowmanville" or whatever. Frank Crowe and Curly. Dear Editor: As a user of ice facilities in the town, I would like to compliment the people responsible responsible for the new complex; complex; it looks extremely attractive attractive and I'm sure equally as serviceable. My concern right now is our existing facilities. On two different occasions last week, we had the opportunity opportunity to use Darlington arena during the rainy days, namely namely Friday and Saturday. Both days there were no less than six garbage containers on the ice surface catching the falling rain, four buckets on one players' bench catching catching water and I onlv had to use one dressing room (#2) and had to share that with another bucket. I understand roofs leak the odd time, but in most cases cases are tendered out for repair. repair. Wo had these same leaks a year ago. My question is wher is the maintenance on our town owned buitilings? We saw a lack of maintenance maintenance with the swimming pool at Memorial Park and as a result the pool was filled in. Is the same thing going to happen at Darlington or even eventually the new complex? I feel this situation with or without the containers on the the ice is extremely dangerous dangerous especially to figure skat ers and public skaters,' as there is no protective equipment equipment worn, the hockey players at least have protection protection but it still poses a very dangerous situation. How about it? Let's have this problem fixed and then we would have two facilities to be proud of.
