\ < 20 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, October 26, 1988 Report from Tyrone U.C.W. by B. Jones Ladies of the Tyrone UCW met for their October meeting on Wednesday 12th at 7:30 p.m. in the C.E. Centre. Centre. Jackie Vaneyk, President opened the meeting and commented on the Nashville Gospel Sing where between between 500 to 700 people sang and the main topic of song was "Jesus Loves Me". Minutes were read by Elsie Elsie Roy and approved. November meeting in charge of Betty Pascoe , Jane Smith and Blanche Jones on the 9th at the regular regular time and willhave slides - Recycling by Glenda Gieds. The Bake Table proceeds go to finance committee From the Craft Sale in November. November. Carol Southwell gave her treasurers report. Collection was taken and dedicated. Correspondence was read by Elsie - a note from Mrs. Jackie Guthery (Sept, guest speaker) and a letter from Denise House. Oshawa Presbytery UCW will meet October 26th at Simcoe St. United Church. Cards are to be sent to Mrs. Helen Kovac who we hope will soom be home from the hospital and to Mr. Jack Cook wno is a patient in Oshawa General Hospital - a speedy recovery to both of these friends. Ann Pleasance reported on caterings. Leadership by Bessie Vaneyk Vaneyk - on Women's Event. Mrs. Jewel was the speaker speaker and with Jackie at the piano piano - Bessie asked us to unite in singing "Part of a Fam- ly". The Official Board meeting meeting was reported by Marion Hoar. Jean Slemon reported on the subscriptions of the Upper Upper Room. Presbytery has asked all of the UCws to donate a "Day's Pay". It was suggested suggested we give $100.00 ana 2nd by Ann. It was moved by Pat Drysdale and 2nd by Ruth Stavrakos that we send $75 to Presbytery yearly. Meeting was turned over to Susan Pleasance and Ruth Stavrakos. Ruth read Psalm 100. Susan remarked how many people would pay out money to go and see the movie movie "Starvation", - set to music music - and read "Food Bank". She called for the Roll Call and as each one was .• noted, she came with a dona- : tion of either canned goods &ot unperishable food to the table and stated what she was thankful for". Hymn 577 - "Come ye thankful people come" was sung. Susan then read "I was Hungry" and followed it by' a reading "the Poor" and it emphasized the point that one can be poor although maybe wealthy moneywise. Another reading that was inspiring inspiring was titled "The Tnankful Heart". We sang hymn 579 "We Plough the Fields and Scatter" Scatter" after which Ruth remarked remarked "Thanksgiving is Thanksliving". Then she read "Youth" from a Readers Digest Book. Susan led in Prayer and introduced the guest Mrs. Isabel Isabel Jones of the Salvation Army, who works in the Family Services for two years - one part being the Food Bank. She gave an interesting talk on their work of assisting assisting less fortunate folks sometimes sometimes with clothing, rent - sometimes lodging and food - other ones, with fuel - when there is a crisis the Salvation Salvation Army extends a helping helping hand. It is not an easy job as quite often pride gets in the way and it makes a person feel rather humble when we think of the times we grumble grumble and pity ourselves. When really we should just say a prayer of thanks for all we nave. Ruth thanked Mrs. Jones and closed by reading "A Thought" in poem - "The Work you did to-day." We enjoyed a social chat at lunch. M.J. Hobbs News The students of M. J. Hobbs have been in school for over a month now and many good things have been happening. We nave just finished finished our fundraising cam- Œ called, "Winter Geese" excellent results. Mrs. , Coles is practising very hard with the choir so they can attend attend Cullen Gardens in November. November. Mr. Ramin is also practising a great deal, with the school, band, on pieces of music they will play at the concert they are giving in December. Mrs. Buttery, Mr. Webster and Mr. Coles have been working hard with the school soccer teams to make the tournament and soccer season successful.
