.V 22 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvillc, October 26,1988 I? ! Yelverton News By Ilarvery Malcolm Intended for last week Thanksgiving dinners were the order of the weekend weekend prior to our own Yelverton Yelverton Beef Dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Alan Gun- dry of Barrie, Ms. Candy Malcolm of Toronto, Todd, Tara, Jeremy and Jason were Thanksgiving dinner guests of Eileen ana Howard Malcolm. Candy recently returned returned from Europe where she spent several days in Austria, Germany and France in conjunction withj her work with Jonik Tours, in T.O. She leaves in the near' future for a similar tour in Australia. Sorry to learn that Mr. Vaughn McGill had the misfortune misfortune this week-end to break his ankle while playing playing hockey. It will probably take several weeks of T.L.C. by wife Audrie to speed his recovery. Sorry to report that the Mayor of Yelverton has spent the past several days in Intensive Care in Oshawa Hospital for some internal repair work. Everyone and we do mean everyone in our community, wishes Moe Mantle the speediest of recoveries. recoveries. Moe to the uniniat ed is the Stephen Leacock of our community dispensing wit and wisdom at the drop of a hat. Our annual Roast Beef Dinner was deemed a succès despite weather that started out to be the pits and continued continued off and on in the same vein. The attendance was down slightly from last year due to the weather no doubt, but the community spirit was inversely proportionate to the weather. As per usual our guests were from far and wide - Peterborough, Oshawa, Bowmanville, Newmarket, Toronto and its various boroughs. Lindsay, Port Perry as wellas most local local villages and hamlets. The menu was delicious - roast beef with all the trimmings plus such a wide selection of pies, cakes, squares, tarts as only our Yelveton cooks can bake. But the greatest bonanza bonanza to our community beyond the monetary rewards for the U.C.W. Treasury was the sociability for all those who became actively involved in such a community endeavour, endeavour, working together for a common good. Special thanks to all those former residents and friends of friends who dug in to help on the occasion. It's surprising the number of former residents from distant distant points who attend these events and take pleasure in renewing old friendships following following a sumptuous meal. Welcome back home, folks! A draw for two paintings' by Mary Lou Foote, a lovely knitted cardigan knit by Laurie Laurie Robinson, a collection of jams and jellies made by our resident gourmet cook, Ralph Pfoh, was made. Those were won by a lady from Port Perry area, a lady from Lindsay and local ladies ladies Eileen Genereux and Linda Pfoh. A tidy bit of change was earned for the ladies organization.
