J 4 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvillc. November 9, 1988 Section Two Hallowe'en Party Held in Elizabethville By Mrs. Thickson Church services were held as usual. Reverend Sedgwick was with us and had the opening prayer; Scripture from Mark 12: was read. After the choir sang an anthem Reverend Sedgwick asked the children questions on the scripture that he had read, about the lawyer asking asking Jesus what were the two most important commandments commandments and Jesus answered Love the Lord your God and love your neighbour as yourself. yourself. Second scripture Deut 6: was read. Mr. Peacock and Mr. Watkins took up the offering. Reverend Sedgwick spoke on two commandments. Dr. Johnson who under took to write a dictionary, said that there was more need to be reminded of what we knew than to relearn new instruction. instruction. Jesus as a teacher taught two great commandments commandments Love thy God with all your heart and with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength and the second one Love your neighbour as yourself". A mathematical truth of faith that can't be changed is 2 + 2 = 4 there is only one God. You can't serve two masters. An aimless life if you try to serve two masters. Deepest loyalty is to God alone. Mrs. Gardiner was at the door along with J. Taylor and coffee was served at the close. - Mr. and Mrs. N.
