Just learned of the passing passing of a lifelong resident of Manvers and until recently of the Lefford area. We refer to that genial red-headed Irishman Joe Staples who with wife and family farmed east of Lefford school at St. Mary's Church for many years. He also was an employee employee for many years of the Dept, of Highways in this area as snowplow operator and other duties. Our closest association with Joe and one we have never forgotten, was the role he played many years ago in spreading the "Chicken Pox". One night at a dance apparently Joe had already picked up the virus unknown to himself and spread it at its contagious best to 6 or 7 others. We know, for we were among those who picked up the "fowl malady" just a few days later.
